I've only seen Blue Velvet and Don't Look Now (and Seven Samurai), but prefer Blue Velvet of the two. The opening scene from Don't Look Now is amazing though.

Blue Velvet is pretty dope, so I vote for that.

...but I haven't seen the others with the exception of The Thin Red Line, and that was a long time ago in school.

How would you rate it in terms of scare factor? I've seen it cited as one of the scariest movies numerous times, and the 70s in general were the GOAT decade for the genre.

Was it a film class or something else?

It has a couple truly scary parts, but overall I wouldn't really consider it a horror movie. It's more about dealing with trauma than anything else.

I'm one of the people who thought Hereditary lived up to the hype, so grief horror's right up my alley.

It's a lot less horror tinged than Hereditary is, but they're still in the same vein for sure.

Can't comment on the others but Blue Velvet's a must-watch even though I personally rank it in the lower echelon of David Lynch movies.

Story of the Late Chrysanthemums is actually my favorite movie on this list, but I'm partial to horror movies for a good time, and even though Don't Look Now is hardly what I call pleasant, it is one of the best horror movies.

i've seen all but the first one

though Mizoguchi's Sansho the Bailiff is my all time favorite, and Ugetsu is a masterpiece as well

Thin Red Line is my favorite Seven Samurai is also amazing

and Don't Look now and Blue Velvet are well worth watching and they're also a much smaller time investment

Ive only seen those four from Roeg (Performance, Dont Look Now, Walkabout, and The Man Who Fell to Earth) but theyre all very, very good. Performance is probably my favorite of the bunch though.

It's worth noting that Performance is actually a co-directing gig that he did with Donald Cammell, who is a great director in his own right. White of the Eye has as much in common with Performance, if not more, as Walkabout or Don't Look Now, in any case.

Don't Look Now is phenomenal, but many find it off putting their first viewing. Give it some time, dwell it on it a bit and then check it out again if that's the case.

This is my second viewing, but it'll be interesting rewatching it after seeing all of David Lynch's other movies besides Dune - I think the only one I watched before it was Mulholland Drive.
