I dont care if it gets modded but this has to be said. If you are against the protests, you are either somehow ignorant to what has been going on or you are racist.

The real problem I find is if you don't slam the police. I feel like people who appreciate what law enforcement does are being treated like racists too.

I'm glad CE has almost entirely about-faced on the BLM thing

I can't remember who it was the other day who posted the screenshot from the poll 5 years ago, but seeing how CE felt about BLM 5 years ago gives me hope that no matter how bad things are right now, this is what progress looks like

(Spoilers: CE couldn't figure out if BLM was better or worse than the KKK, no exaggeration)

Thats a problem sure but all Im saying is supporting the BLM movement. It doesnt matter if you are anti-police, pro-police, liberal, conservative, Trump supporter or Bernie supporter. If you dont support the message of the movement you are racist or ignorant.

"black-on-black crime"

they also LOVe to ignore that black communities FREQUENTLY talk about violence happening in their communities

also they love to ignore that poor communities are more violent, and black people are disproportionately poor due to 150 years of systematic racism after the abolition of slavery. Put resources/ money into communities and watch them thrive. If wealthy white suburban communities became poor, crime would start soaring. Because of desperation.
Poverty is bad, racism is bad. The two combined are extremely destructive

Make sure people have a living wage, healthcare, got a place to sleep, got stuff to do in their free time, are feed and clothed, have access to good education and things will be a lot better.

Will racism go away? Absolutely not but it will alleviate many of the symptoms.

But the united states refuses to offer things that most other countries have.

there would certainly be protests for george floyd, but i think the conditions right now in this moment, helped contribute to how big and widespread they are. Mass unemployment, government not providing for those people. I believe there is something like over 50% of black adults unemployed right now, which is insane.

Economic crisis + another racist police murder

I hope this moment is seized, and doesn't fizzle out. I hope this can be used to demand systematic change in not just the justice system, but housing, healthcare, education etc. because all those are infected by racism too

i just hope people don't get complacent because a dem is president. A lot of these cities that have some of the worst brutality are dem run cities in dem run states (though almost all the big cities are dem run, 35 of the top 50). NYC, LA, Portland, Seattle, Minny etc All these issues are bipartisan. The housing prices in big cities are out of control, and they keep building luxury condos that most people can not afford. And a lot of the people that buy them, do not even live in them. They are an asset.
continue to demand we at the very least, get what other countries get in terms of a safety net, wage, healthcare, education etc

Minny being the center of the protests is thus far the only city that looks like it could actually achieve something at this early point of the protests. With their calls to dismantle the police department and one of the city council members attempting to do so

i mean's there's a bunch of research on the subject by radical thinkers and activists over the past couple decades

https://www.versobooks.com/books/2426-the-end-of-policing

i have this book but i still nee do to read it and there's a bunch of prison abolition stuff but to me this is what helped click the possibility of prison abolition working

https://benjarman.info/2011/12/walpole/

TLDR:

One of the most violent prisons in america has a riot, guards are expelled and the prisoners run the prison.

The prison became one of the safest in the country.

it was one of the single things that really helped me radicalize in so many ways

there are also self-run communes in Mexico, and Syria

that aren't controlled by a government, but are self-sufficient communities

as well as native american tribes with significantly more egalitarian practices

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebel_Zapatista_Autonomous_Municipalities#Criticism

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rojava

like not perfect, but i think they're a possible look at a better world, where we run our own communities

not competing with each other, but collaborating for the betterment of everyone

i'm def interested in reading a ton more about stuff like this

i started really getting radicalized in like i dunno, fall 2017

and it almost feels like a radicalize further every day.

though it def wasn't my first brush with socialism and i was def on always was on the leaning left end of the spectrum.

Like i read a book about the black panthers by junior year of college and absolutely loved it.

So many lies have been told about that organization

there are lot of interesting radical figures in our county's history and many outside it as well

James Baldwin is one of the most celebrated writers of any nationality in the 20th century and he was a socialism

Lucy Parsons, Emma Goldman, Angela Davis, Bell Hooks, Ella Baker, Big Bill Haywood, Joe hill, Eugene Debs, Mother Jones etc

Ursula L Guin is one of the most acclaimed sci-fi/fantasy writers ever and her books depict post-capitalist, egalitarian societies. Kim Stanley Robinson who wrote the Mars trilogy is a socialist

It's been made into a dirty word, and another effect has been the demonizing of unions. Union membership used to be so high.

I'd highly recommend the film Sorry to Bother you by Boots Riley, which is a populist movie, easy to enjoy but thought provoking and based off his communist framework. I think he's one of the smartest people right now. And he's also a talented rapper.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acT_PSAZ7BQ he's the scarecrow in this video

A lot of Americans seem afraid to ask for something better. We've been fed so much propaganda about America, and so much propaganda about other countries.

Those countries have to be perfect or they're bad, and then the u.s or britain or other big western countries do numerous awful things and those same people ask for nuance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npkeecCErQc&t=2s

i really like this video i have one of parenti's book as well

People don't realize how bad Batista who ruled before the Cuba revolution was. (he was u.s backed)

And that the standards of living are so much higher than they were, even with decades of u.s sanctions.

The u.s condemns cuba, and yet they caused the cuban missile crisis by initiating the bay of pigs invasion.

We're allowed to meddle in the affairs of other countries, and they aren't allowed to respond or defend themselves.

Like is Cuba perfect, of course not. But the u.s has no right to criticize.

and the u.s condemns every socialist country as ruled by dictators, has invaded those countries and tried to destroy them. And yet they've propped up dictators everywhere. The contras in Nicaragua killed children and raped nuns, u.s backed them. The u.s helped oust the Iranian prime minister in the 50s because he wanted Britain to stay out and leave their oil alone. They installed a puppet, who was then overthrown. In the 50s it was a secular democracy, now it's an islamic republic. All because Iran wasn't allowed to control its own resources.

We backed the anti-communist pinochet in chile, who killed thousands. But it's ok because he hated communism.

People harp on and on about North korea and love to ignore the south korean dictator

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chun_Doo-hwan

he massacred thousands of koreans, but the u.s was ok with him, because he was anti-communist.

We love to denounce situations we helped cause

like the deeper i get into it, the more i realize just how deep the rot is.

and there are plenty of people and groups out there willing to educate people about radical subjects, for little to no money

yeah i can def send you an invite at some point, there is a process, where the mods will ask you questions, to see if you'll be a good fit for the community. And i don't think you'll have a problem.

There are idk a couple hundred people there, and probably over half are lgbtq

Mostly American, though we've got some brits some canadians. A guy from brazil, someone from Italy, another person from denmark.

and there is a channel for political education, and we have a few people who have a pretty deep reservoir of knowledge about socialism as an ideology.

Though while all of us subscribe to socialism, most of us aren't deeply informed on theory.

a fair amount of people are game developers too

All of our lives have been more or less exactly the same for at least 30 years no matter who's in office, very little change besides maybe paying a little more or little less in taxes. All of this is like a farce to keep us arguing amongst one another and ensure we probably never become successful at anything because we're too busy complaining constantly.

I understand the concept of the protests. But under current circumstances with the coronavirus on the loose, and Officer Derek Chauvin already in custody, I don't see the need for these large gatherings at this particular time. We're going to see an explosion of coronavirus cases.

I would add 2 caveats:
  1. You can be reasonably against the protests if you have concerns about corona, you might not be "right" but it doesn't make you a bigot
  2. You don't become a bigot if you are not personally protesting.
With those 2 things in mind, yeah I think people who think there isn't an issue with police violence in this country are ignorant.
