I hold the view that it should be illegal, but with a stipulation.
If medical documents can be produced that show that one of the two involved in incest have gone to lengths as a matter of birth control, then, by doctor's orders, the courts may not prosecute. Failure to produce the documents result in punishment.

This way incest is reduced but not fully criminal, and possibly harmed newborns shall not come into life suffering.

I'm not a fan of the whole "birth defects" argument. We don't force people with terrible genetic diseases to stop having kids, we don't have restrictions on births when you're poor, etc.

As long as there's no child conceived and no potential power abuse, I don't see a problem. I would never take part in it myself, but I don't see any reason to stop two equal and consenting adults from doing what they want in their own home.

People who know they'll have troubled offspring typically avoid breeding. Typically this comes about from winning an awful lottery with genetic issues that hadn't actually done anything to anyone carrying them prior, or the unfortunate sheer ignorance a lot of poor communities have.

If there's a power dynamic at play such as father/daughter then it is rape as said people do not have an equal say in consent.

For siblings / cousins who are from the same generation there's nothing morally wrong with it, it's just taboo.

Biological problems are there but we don't ban shit like autistic people having children so it seems hypocritical to ban incest for that reason as well. If anything it should stay illegal because it's a tremendous vector of abuse.

Theres ALWAYS a risk for pregnancy regardless of whatever most precautions they use.

I see no moral good, or any sort of beneficial gain from incest outside of a individuals pure lust and taboo fetishes.

So long as both or maybe just one(sometimes) partys are prepared for the possible consequences then alot. Being promiscuous on top of poor and irresponsible though has destroyed communities.

I have incest in my family tree

The parents of my mom's mom were first degree full on blood cousins. They got married and made my grandma in Germany I think in like the very beginning of the 1900s or 1910s or whatever

Anyway, I am pro incest as long as everyone involved is legal, consenting, and they aren't having kids. Though if they are the level of cousins or further then it might not be so bad. Studies show that cousin inbreeding is nowhere near as dangerous as people think

But for sure siblings and parents and offspring shouldn't have babies.

Actually it's deeper than that. Single generational inbreeding isn't a huge risk on the grand scale of births. It's all statistics but statistically continued inbreeding and lack of genetic diversification is what spawns birth defects. The statistics of a first generational inbred birth creating a child with birth defects doesn't move the needle much compared to just birth by parents of different genetic backgrounds.
