The "yawn" is typically the snake rehinging his jaw back into place. When they eat, they dislocate it to swallow their prey whole.

It's a better habit to get into, especially as the snake gets larger. Feeding it live mice, and then live rats, during the killing period the rodent can gnaw on the skin of the snake, even at times it's head/eye. Frozen is the more responsible method of feeding as a snake owner.

How does he like a frozen defrosted baby rat more than the warm live one hes programmed to want

Saw a snake kill and eat a mice at a snake farm once. If I owned one as a pet, I'd definitely feed it live ones if it was financially viable for me.

How is it dangerous? What's a mouse gonna do, nibble him to death?

It's more common than you think, not "to death" but if the snake grabs it by the back, wraps it up, and the head is loose, it can gnaw on the skin, the face, the nose, and in rare instances, the snake's eye causing permanent damage. It's safer for the snake in captivity to feed it thawed, pre-killed rodents.

When it's large enough to eat a rat, yes, the rat can potentially kill the snake if the snake does not security properly while suffocating it. Just about all experts in the field will tell you the same thing, some people enjoy the spectacle of the kill, but it's a lot safer for the animal.

Because feeding it live mice would be one of the pleasures of having a snake to me, and it's too expensive a pet to replace if that ends up hurting it.

No, usually a warm cup of water and set it in there for 30 to 45 minutes. Then you dry it off, dangle it by the tail in front of the snake until it lunges and strikes. The body of the mouse/rat is warm from the process and the snake doesn't know the difference.
