Feeding it live mice, and then live rats, during the killing period the rodent can gnaw on the skin of the snake, even at times it's head/eye. It's more common than you think, not "to death" but if the snake grabs it by the back, wraps it up, and the head is loose, it can gnaw on the skin, the face, the nose, and in rare instances, the snake's eye causing permanent damage. It's safer for the snake in captivity to feed it thawed, pre-killed rodents. When it's large enough to eat a rat, yes, the rat can potentially kill the snake if the snake does not security properly while suffocating it.
