Idk. Mom definitely has it. And sometimes I find myself doing it. But its not formally diagnosed.

I do notice it comes on more often when Im at work than anywhere else.

I dont mean tapping/shaking your leg, I mean restless leg syndrome which is where you have a burning desire to move your legs and walk around. idk how to describe it but I cant even enjoy movies/games at night anymore

Quinine. Get Tonic water and drink 4oz. It's literally the same medication a doctor will give to you.

This isn't true as far as I'm aware. A good doctor would not prescribe quinine for restless leg.

Per UpToDate: "Quinine use for the treatment or prevention of nocturnal leg cramps may result in serious and life-threatening hematologic reactions, including thrombocytopenia and hemolytic uremic syndrome/thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP). Chronic renal impairment associated with the development of TTP has been reported. The risk associated with quinine use in the absence of evidence of its effectiveness in the treatment or prevention of nocturnal leg cramps outweighs any potential benefit."

Ideal conservative options for reducing the problem includes increasing physical activity, treatment of anemia if iron is low and reducing caffeine. Medical intervention, if required for more chronic issues, is best completed with a non ergot dopamine agonist, such as ropinarole, brand name Requip.

A few tips that have helped me.

Avoid taking antihistamines like Benadryl and see if that improves your symptoms. Antihistamines and even some NSAIDs are a huge trigger for me.

Avoid obvious things like alcohol, smoking, shitty food, etc.

A quick fix that works for me is to lay on your back with your feet in the air and bicycle kick like a fucking doofus. Seriously, it works. Just pedal until your legs burn and then relax. Almost always allows me to fall asleep without the herky jerkies.

My father had it, but it was fairly minor, and it didn't bother him enough to try and medicate for it or anything.

He actually did take quinine, though - in its simplest and safest form as part of tonic water. He deliberately drank tonic water for that reason (and for a couple others), and he said he thought it helped him, but it's always hard to judge from subjective anecdotal evidence.
