I put a few hours in it so far and it's very fun! Standard Shantae game, but it manages to make itself feel unique with the new way her transformations and dances work. And the humor is absolutely on point in this game, which is always one of my favorite parts about it. I don't know how it stacks up to the other games, but so far if you like the other Shantae games, I'd say it's worth picking up!

I always recommend Risky's Revenge first because I think it's better about introducing a lot of other characters for Pirate's Curse (Squid Baron, for instance). Plus I like it for progression of gameplay to start with that one and then move on to the rest.

In terms of games I think mine goes:

Pirate's Curse > Risky's Revenge > 1/2 Genie Hero

I haven't played the originally because, well, I don't feel like setting up an emulator but I might when I finish Seven Sirens if I'm still in a Shantae mood. I also didn't play the 1/2 Genie Hero DLC which I feel like I need to do.

The original is available on the 3DS. It's quite difficult on account of the GBC's limitations.

I think from a writing standpoint this may be the best Shantae game yet. The humor is so good in this game and I find myself talking to every NPC after each major dungeon clear and stuff because they're all so good.

There is a joke that is in this game and it's already hilarious enough. But then it gets an absolutely incredible and unexpected payoff that I had to pause to just laugh at. It is so, so, so good.

This game is really outstanding and fun though. It definitely takes all the assets and everything from 1/2 Genie Hero and then makes a truly awesome game that is much more solid than that. Really, really good stuff. It feels, quality-wise, on-par with Pirate's Curse.

Honestly, this may end up being my favorite. I still got a bit more to go, but man. This is such a damn good game.

I beat Shantae: Seven Sirens!

I think I'll have to play Pirate's Curse again, but I think this is definitely close to the best game of the franchise. I ended up with 94% completion. (I literally have no idea what I missed, even looking at a map. Ugh.) But I guess I'll do pros and cons.

Pros:
- Story is the best of all games I think. It's just really strong for a game like this.
- The writing and humor is the best of the entire series. I went back and talked to every NPC after each dungeon. Literally every single one because each NPC is hilarious. All of the humor just lands.
- The characters you know and love actually get some quality time in the game. I would say of all returning characters, Bolo is probably the one with the least to do, but he's still very funny. Squid Baron is the best character in the game and it's not even close. He's just the best.
- Back to classic Metroidvania! It's one giant map, which is cool. It really is cool exploring the whole map.
- Gameplay is crisp. It feels very good to play her and all of the movement options in the game are great.
- Enemies are really, really cool. A lot of returning ones, but the new ones are either goofy enough to be funny or cool enough that I want to see them in future installments.

Cons:
- The dungeons and overall maps do feel a bit more basic than a lot of the other games. I don't know why.
- Overabundance of money makes this game so easy. I eventually was able to completely stock my inventory with everything I need and maxed out on all replenishment items and I wasn't even close to the end of the game.
- Some powers feel less cool? Two of the dances are actually the same thing for combat, even if they have different applications.
- The map sucks for showing you where you still have stuff to find. It's kind of frustrating. Usually I just 100% the game before I beat the final boss, but I couldn't find the last couple items (I think 2 heart squids and a couple nuggets). You only really get told how many heart squids are in dungeons, which isn't very helpful.

Despite the cons, I still think this is just as fun as Pirate's Curse and it's absolutely worth playing! If you like the franchise, I doubt you'll be disappointed. If you're new to the franchise, you'll probably fall in love with how charming it is, but I always recommend Risky's Revenge first.

These last few posts have me so interested/excited to check this series out. I've got a good few games lined up that I want to play first, but I think I'll finally give this series a crack over the summer!
