That place is over rated. Tons of traffic everywhere and everyone who lives there thinks their the shit because they are in Austin. The bars aren't even that great. Now with Corona virus, there's no reason to go to the arcade or the festivals either and those are crowded as well.

The mentality a lot of the people have there is "look at me look what I can do." People that are obsessed with competition, their status, their appearance. It's just stupid. And that's only after you are able to get out of the car after 1-2 hours of traffic.

Most of the people there aren't even from Tx. It's over rated. Tired of hearing about that place.

Had fun times driving down there from Dallas when I was in college. Was a fun party spot.

But ya, traffic's always been bad there

I mean once or twice a year, maybe it's fun to visit if there's a new restaurant or something, but that's about it. 6th street is over rated and over priced, nothing but rich tourists and college kid, with a few ghetto people from down the street.

Not sure who you're asking, but Dallas is pretty bad ass actually. Just watch out for people on the highway. They will run you off of the road there.

Austin is amazing. As a born and bred Texan, its my favorite area of the state. The only real part of Texas with actual hills lol

Yeah its crowded, but thats because everyone likes it there. Infrastructure cant handle the amount of people in such a small area. With no traffic, only takes like 25 minutes to drive through all of Austin. Its not a huge town.

Traffic is bad, but its nowhere near LA traffic bad. Plus the food is INCREDIBLE. Everything is local, organic, farm to market, etc. Chain restaurants dont do as well as local places there. And I think thats awesome.

Food is the same as every other big city in TX. And you're from Tx, yet you say it's the only place with hills? You haven't visited many of the surrounding areas have you?

Ehh, maybe it's because I grew up there but it doesn't really excite me. I feel it's too big, too much driving involved, etc. It's a nice place to live in terms of price, diverse choices, etc. But ehh.

Currently in Denver right now though and I find more fun, but part of that is because I'm still "new" to it. I much prefer Denver weather than Dallas weather

I love Austin but for different reasons. Not because of the freaky people who get off from being freakazoids, but because my baby was born there at saint David's hospital. My memories at my age are the most important thing to me.

Stopped taking you seriously after the first sentence there. Also, central Texas is literally called the Hill Country. The vast majority of Texas is flat as fuck. West Texas near El Paso obviously has a few smaller mountains, and a bit of hills in East Texas, but not much.

Your opinions on Texas suck, TC.

the northwest hills area of austin is indisputably the best place in the city and perhaps best part of the state to live

damn shame it's so pricy

austin's nice but the traffic is atrocious, trends in real estate are driving out the natives and local businesses, and transplants are upending municipal politics

The atmosphere, the food, bars, community. Good jobs, and everything is within a small distance.

Then you have museums, the capital area is beautiful. Lots of trails and river activities.

I have visited a handful of major cities in the past couple years (Columbus, Philly, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Miami etc) but Austin is the one major city Ive been to where I could see myself living. (Albeit from a tourist standpoint Miami was much more beautiful and a lifetime experience, but I could never afford to live there or deal with the surrounding culture.)

That's pretty much how I feel about Austin. Austin has the most pretentious people I've ever met in my life. And it's filled with a bunch of manufactured culture.

Dallas is a naturally urban culture akin to something like LA or NYC. Actually diverse, naturally liberal, and historical.

Still the best place to visit Texas is San Antonio. Best place to live is Fort Worth.

wasn't always that way, the change really began to accelerate in the late 2000s

old austin remains in ungentrified pockets, particularly on the south side

Austin is my favorite Texas city, because of the chill vibe and the fact that it's a clean city (no plastic bags everywhere).

Houston is my second favorite, it's the closest to me and it feels like home. It's a big city that's close to the Louisiana border, so the cuisine is great. You always have things to do out there.

I can't stand Dallas, that is all.

Austin got ruined by all the liberals moving in.

And of course they continue voting blue after moving away from the problems their voting blue caused. Good logic guys.
austin has always been liberal - but it was an organic homegrown kind of liberalism with libertarian, hippie flavors to it (cept the conservative west and far north parts)

californians brought a different kind of liberalism to the city, hard to explain, out of touch with conditions on the ground

solid assessment honestly. Im from Houston, and its got some cool areas. Lots of culture. But the humidity and flooding make it rough.

Lived in Fort Worth for a few years, and it was ok. Definitely better than Dallas.

problem's exploded in recent years, local reports suggest other cities are dumping their homeless here, and local govt has done a poor job of addressing it

it doesn't seem like long ago when underpass parking didn't serve as homeless camps

People from the silcon valley tech bubble and hollywood types are a special kind of out of touch. When I lived in Alanta I worked with more than a few they thought East Atlanta was ghetto. You know the area with Williams Street, CNNs Headquarters, the Zoo, ect. Just because of street art.
