I am reading a lot of misinformation on this board. Let the true facts be clear - Dozens of small businesses were vandalized and looted, multiple businesses were completely destroyed, and looting was widespread.

An AFFORDABLE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT was completely burned and destroyed.

Let that sink in an entire development whose purpose was to provide affordable housing to poor people in the community was destroyed by these vandals and anarchists.

Who did this help? I keep seeing people here saying that the riots were somehow justified. How? These businesses will mostly get out of this community, and never return. An entire affordable housing development is now gone. Lots of business and real estate insurance policies have exceptions for riots and will not be able to reopen. The local police headquarters servicing this area was badly damaged and vehicles were vandalized.

Lets look at the purpose of the riots the killing of a man by police. The video was horrifying. The cop is very very likely guilty of murder, and if so, I hope he gets his full punishment. Unlike a lot of the other ones hyped by the media, this one was pretty clear cut police misconduct and I have not really seen any media sources or really anyone defending the police.

Its strange, because we all basically agree that this was bad. Yet, many here continue to justify literal rioting.

This is utterly horrific to the peaceful people who live in these communities a lot of the protesters and a lot of the people doing actual damage were white and probably traveled just to take part in the civil disobedience and fan the flames of violence and destruction (some probably paid).

Horrifying video from this morning: https://twitter.com/MrAndyNgo/status/1265967037890756608

https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota-news/photos-rioting-turns-violent-deadly-numerous-businesses-burned-in-south-minneapolis

EDIT: This is allegedly the affordable housing development that got destroyed
http://citypages.com/news/south-minneapolis-will-get-430-new-affordable-housing-units-but-what-is-affordable/501920662
The proposal includes about 430 new units in three new buildings a 142-unit complex of mostly market-rate studios, a 177-unit building geared toward mixed-income families, and a 113-unit building of affordable senior apartments. The whole thing is slated to cost a tidy $96 million and fill out the remainder of the block.
Its an attractive prospect. If the city of Minneapolis were a word cloud, affordable and housing might as well be the big, bold letters in the center. Right now, the city is facing a housing crisis as more and more low-income families struggle to find places to live. In the past 20 years, according to the city, about 15,000 units of housing considered affordable for people who make half the median income have been lost.

Spitting on the cause with mindless destruction.

The rioters destroyed an affordable housing development.

And a lot of the destroyed businesses are not coming back. The rioters literally gutted that community.

Black leaders should speak out against these things. How can you defend this and get upset about armed protesters doing nothing? Not that the quality of the cause is the same, this is a worthy cause and lock down protesters can eat my ass, but you can't undermine the cause. Attacking businesses that had nothing to do with what happened just makes you look like what the cops think you are and that just feeds into their bigotry.

Ferguson is still completely marred and broken after the riots. A lot of good that did, right?
https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2018/business/is-racial-discrimination-influencing-corporate-investment-in-ferguson/
FERGUSON, Mo. When Starbucks opened here in 2016, politicians celebrated, predicting that the coffee chain would revitalize a city marred by violent protests over Michael Browns killing two years earlier.
Other corporations jumped in with multimillion-dollar commitments to help rebuild the majority-black town that became a global symbol of racial and economic inequality.
But four years after the unrest, nearly all of the new development is concentrated in the more prosperous and whiter parts of town, bypassing the predominantly black southeast neighborhood where Brown was fatally shot by a police officer while walking to his grandmothers home.
The investments, rather than easing the economic gap, have deepened that divide.
This is the forgotten Ferguson, said Francesca Griffin, a St. Louis native who moved to the inner-ring suburb 13 years ago for the more-affordable home prices. Time and time again, West Florissant Avenue just gets left out. And people are losing hope.

Wasn't Ferguson the one where the suspect charged at an officer? If no injustice ever occurred, I don't see how it could lead to reformation. Here, an injustice clearly occurred, as had in Rodney King.

Also, LA was devastated for a long time. But it led to a permanent reformation in the LAPD, which is completely indistinguishable from pre-Rodney King. Change takes time and in the long run, a reformed police department saves lives.

I personally think that this MN one is worse obviously, but a lot of people back then were mad in a very similar way. Enough that riots broke out and destroyed ferguson, and it has not recovered 6 years later. The riots left it dead and helpless. probably like what will happen to this community in Minneapolis.
