They're the ideal games to play when I'm completely bored. Once I beat them though, I'm done. So as usual, I can't vote.

I haven't played any of the SNES games, but the NES games are all great in my mind. Never understood why DQ7 is so highly regarded, I thought it was the worst one by far. DQ8 was great. The only other one I've played is DQ11 and it was really good for the first 30-40 hours, then it grows kind of stale. Too linear for my taste. Will probably get around to finishing it eventually, just gotta conjure up the will.

I loved the early Dragon Warrior games, but they felt like they peaked for me at DW3. And then other RPGs felt like they kept improving and improving while DQ as a whole sort of stayed the same, or only improved in incremental amounts, to the point where it never seemed worth it to try and get back into it.

Kinda like many Pokemon games or other titles where it feels like jumping in once every two or four generations might be best. I wanted to like Sun and Moon, but the amount of things they'd added by then caused them to handhold you through unlocking said content.

DQ11 is a decent leap, in terms of gameplay, from the middle of the franchise, but I wouldn't recommend the game to anyone who cannot stomach by-the-cook tropes en masse. Someone on Discord I was talking to compared it to comfort food, to which I can only shake my head and draw a better comparison to something like honeyglazed chicken. It's a whole lot of unhealthy packed together, bite after bite, and yet I know people will go for it because of course they will.

You played 7 but your not a fan?

This is like some guy that watches 60-80 Baseball games a year but claims that he doesn't like the sport at all.

It probably also wouldn't help if you kind of hate Toriyama's art style.

It was less of an issue in the earlier games (where the graphics couldn't really duplicate his art style all that well anyway), but the better graphics get, the more his influence shows, and the less appealing I find it (this is probably part of why I don't fellate Chrono Trigger as much as some people do, as well).

Arguably, I sort of feel the same way about Amano and Final Fantasy. As much as people shit on Nomura's designs (and obsession with belts), I feel like Amano's style wouldn't necessarily have translated as well into modern graphical fidelity. Amano worked for the earlier games, but I'm not sure it would have looked as good in more recent games.

i enjoyed 1 and 3
but it'd be hard to recommend them to people now
they're more like staples for stats and level building in modern gaming

if someone wanted to play dw3 on SNES and it like had like double XP
then i'd say go for it

I've only played the Warriors spinoffs, but that was enough for me to realize I wouldn't like the series.

I've played only a couple/few but I actually really enjoyed them.

I just have to prioritize what games I get, and usually only think of games randomly.

So can't say the poll options really suited me either tbh.

Christ almighty it took forever but I finally found somebody else who thinks so!

I had the PS1 original and my god I hated it- it took forever, it was super boring.. And I love these games. I know what they entail, the grinding doesn't bother me at all.. but could never get into this each time I tried.

I bought the 3DS remake day one, because I wanted so badly to like the damn thing. I just couldn't. There are some improvements but by not incorporating visible encounters correctly they somehow made the pacing worse.

I've played every mainline game except for 6 and 10. 7 is dead last. The first NES game is better. DQ2 is better. I've tried way too much to like DQ7 but it's just not good.

dq7 is amazing

it gives you the boat right off the bat and the games story is episodic in nature

it doesn't have the openess of the others, but the plot development is top notch
someone who likes the more boring parts of dw3 would fall in love with dw7

Isn't that how video games are though? Other than rogeulikes and multiplayer.
