They can all interbreed and create fertile offspring, so they are by definition the same species.

did you know that mules aren't always infertile? would you argue that donkey and horses are the same species?

They usually are though. Interbreeding with these species are practically always fertile. I'm just going by the definition. In fact, these are all subspecies of the same species. I just read their species names. So I guess scientists already knew this and my epiphany is a bit too late. Coyotes is the only one that isn't a subspecies of C. lupus

how about ligers, a lion/tiger hybrid, the females from that are always fertile. or a leopon, a leopard/lion hybrid that is always fertile?

or maybe grizzly and polar bear hybrids, which are fertile?

So males usually aren't so probably not. But you can even look up the species name and they're all C. lupus. So biologists agree.

Kinda thought this was common knowledge. "Coyotes" here in the Eastern USA have considerable wolf ancestry and probably some dog in them too.

IIRC, only African Wild Dogs aren't part of the same species when it comes to dog-type animals.

Most of the native dogs of the Americas have died out thanks to European dogs doing to them what we did to the neanderthals they were genetically different enough to be considered not the same exact thing kinda like how Bonobos and humans branch from (cant remember specific ape). Inuit Sled dogs, Eskimo dogs, Greenland dogs, Carolina dogs, and Chihuahuas are the only remaining of them, African wild dogs cant breed with regualar canines but the can with coyotes.

Did you know if a coyote doesn't respond to the pack howl it induces heat in the females of the pack to bolster the numbers and they can have viable offspring with pretty much any canine? Somehow they haven't outbred the rest of em though....I may have heard that on the joe rogan podcast though so who knows how true it is. lol

Coyotes and dogs can interbreed, but they usually don't because the heat cycles don't match up well.

So theoretically we could have a Chihuahua coyote etc

How is there not a market for that? Miniaturized wolfhuahuas? Think they just turn out too huahua?
