There's definitely a merit to all 3. The 2nd is best but the hardest to pull off correctly & well. Silent Hill might as well be lumped into the first category from Origins on for example.

Psychic/reality corrupting forces are often good, so I voted for the 2nd. It's close enough to my personal answer of things that literally corrupt reality. Not necessarily a spooky monster or a crazy normal guy, but it definitely can conjure or cause both.

Second is the scariest with all three being done at their best - generally speaking - but I guess that's not really what this is asking. Honestly all three can be truly excellent or... not, depending on the execution.
