By either coworkers, friends or strangers?

I say this because some people will who need to pass by me, will sometime mildly touch my back as a signal that they're passing by or that they need to get through. And all the times that its happened I have never had a problem with it, as most people who do have been genuinely friendly people.

I've only had 2 people go up behind me and rub my shoulders. One was a coworker and one was a teacher I had in high school who was notorious for doing such things to other students. There were a couple of students who all said that they were gonna report him, but they never actually did that.

I dont care if someone just touches me but I hate it when someone just starts rubbing my shoulders without asking. I dont care if its a dude or a girl, its creepy and I hate it.

The only person who gets a free pass to randomly start massaging my shoulders is my mom.

Somebody touching my back to pass by me is no big deal. Some people believe it's sexual assault, but I don't buy it.

I usually dont mind shoulders. It can be weird at times if they rub. But touching doesnt matter. Also, I dont like the hard rubs. For back, touching to pass doesnt matter much. But touching when Im sitting is weird because Im not use to it when sitting. Again, I dont really mind, though...

what

Some people will say its sexual assault because its touching them. Plus, touching the back is almost like putting your arm around someone to some people. It is a ridiculous assumption, though...

I mean sometimes you get #MeToo'd if you touch the wrong person's back at a party. It happened to David Silverman of American Atheists and his career was pretty much ruined over it. His accuser claimed that the part of the back he touched is connected to her vagina and it caused her to be sexually stimulated against her will. This was all after the fact of course, and she went on a podcast to talk about it and put on the world's worst acting job.

What's weird is that if people thought about it, he wouldn't have even know that...

I mean, it's not really a common thing for a random place on a woman's back to get them sexual stimulated. Or if it is, I don't think it's very well known. Basically, it seems weird to think he just knew a specific place on her back that he could touch to get her sexually stimulated...

It would be creepy from strangers that didn't ask, but I wouldn't find it creepy at some party tho.

Coworkers or friends are absolutely fine for me , they just try to bond. I would rather find it weird if they were just silent and be like "I don't wanna come closer" .
I wouldn't do it, cause most people are sensitive about their personal space and don't want any contact at all.
I would always ask first and try getting a permission.

hand on shoulder or upper back is perfectly normal and acceptable. that's the go-to non verbal gesture for "excuse me I need to get by you and there isn't enough room"
If you're in a noisy and crowded bar, this will happen 50 times in a night.

a full on back rub or shoulder massage is different. I personally don't mind, although it is a bit awkward if a stranger does it. But I can 100% see how some people would not like it all all.

I wouldn't say I don't mind it, but having my shoulders or back rubbed/touched by people isn't something I'm familiar with so I'm incredibly jumpy about it.

It the kitchen we constantly tap each other if a body part is on the way.

On a funnier note, a few weeks ago my boss tripped on my foot and I reached out to help her avoid falling into the grill and grabbed her butt. Then a week later, I accidentally elbowed her boob and I instinctively reach out for her shoulder to apologize but grab her boob instead. We all had a good laugh.

I find the "out of the way" touch as a bit rude except maybe in a very crowded, noisier space.

As for shoulder rubbing, one shoulder is a friendly gesture. Both shoulders kinda gets into the issue of personal space where if I don't know the person or give permission first, I'll often object to it.
