The survival rate of the general population is 99.25% annually. In a given year, 0.75 out of every 100 Americans will pass away. The survival rate for Covid is... 99.5%. Almost everyone who dies of it had pre existing conditions, most commonly due to old age.

.....you're going to be fine.

It was understood months ago that young, healthy adults aren't at-risk. The concern is for the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions. They have a right to live just like anyone else.

You really see the ageism and ableism of Americans come out during all of this. If the roles were reversed like they were during the Spanish Flu (young adults were more at risk than older adults) y'all would be freakin' pissed at all the old people going out.

Keyword--estimated. And we are well past the low end of those estimations.

It really gets old having to explain this type of shit to you people.

So you can just assume that the actual flu deaths are on the low-end of the estimates? Even if you take the median from that estimated, which is a fair thing to do, you are looking at around 470k flu deaths annually. Is COVID-19 past that yet?

Which of those facts are incorrect? Just curious, @TommyG663513 .

It's at 346k in six months and is starting to slam Brazil hard, so it'll pass it pretty quickly.

I'm a New Yorker and just thinking about the early covid response in my area. That was kinda bad how when a teacher tested positive. They closed down the school for a deep clean overnight and reopened the next day. Sometimes teachers tested positive and they didn't tell staff/parents until a couple days later. Those teachers probably passed it to students who passed it to parents. Also if a parent of a student tested positive that wasn't enough to close a school or tell parents/staff.

Here is an article of one such situation from the time period about it if people want proof of what Im talking about. As well as a window into the NYC thinking in March to facepalm about the quotes from that era. Anyway glad that era is behind us

We have been consistently under the daily death projections in the US since this really started in early March. A quick Google search shows that many people predicted a daily death toll of 3000 deaths in the US by the beginning of June, we are barely at half of that right now.

I have no doubt that the COVID-19 death toll will likely surpass the total for the flu, and maybe even AIDS, but to act like it is a certainty is ridiculous. It is entirely possible that the disease is already so widespread that the majority of people who are going to die from it have already been exposted and died and the death rate will slow down drastically in coming months.

Some of you do not like the other side of this discussion, and that is okay because everyone is entitled to their opinion, but do not sit there and act like your opinion is 100% correct, especially when there is plenty of evidence to support the opposite opinion.

This statement is 100% incorrect. You do realize that the reason you consider my opinion to be downplaying the situation is because you do not agree with my opinion, right? Most of what I have said has not even been an opinion. The death counts I gave for the flu and AIDS are facts. The CDC revising their mortality rate from 3% to 0.3% is a fact. The mortality rate for healthy people under 65 years old being essentially 0% is a fact.

I only use the flu as a baseline comparison. This is obviously worse than the flu. The flu has only killed an average of 10k people per month in the US this flu season, since October, and COVID-19 has killed roughly three times that. Worldwide, though, it is a fact that the flu this season has likely killed more people the COVID-19 so far. The CFR of COVID-19 is similar to the flu but COVID-19 spreads much easier and should have some type of response.

All entertainment businesses are still closed. Casinos are still closed but they are being handled by the Gaming Commission, not the governor, and they have to personally inspect casinos before giving the green light.
