The concern is for the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions. They have a right to live just like anyone else. You really see the ageism and ableism of Americans come out during all of this. I'm a New Yorker and just thinking about the early covid response in my area. That was kinda bad how when a teacher tested positive. They closed down the school for a deep clean overnight and reopened the next day. Sometimes teachers tested positive and they didn't tell staff/parents until a couple days later. Those teachers probably passed it to students who passed it to parents. Also if a parent of a student tested positive that wasn't enough to close a school or tell parents/staff.
Here is an article of one such situation from the time period about it if people want proof of what Im talking about. As well as a window into the NYC thinking in March to facepalm about the quotes from that era. We have been consistently under the daily death projections in the US since this really started in early March. A quick Google search shows that many people predicted a daily death toll of 3000 deaths in the US by the beginning of June, we are barely at half of that right now.
I have no doubt that the COVID-19 death toll will likely surpass the total for the flu, and maybe even AIDS, but to act like it is a certainty is ridiculous. It is entirely possible that the disease is already so widespread that the majority of people who are going to die from it have already been exposted and died and the death rate will slow down drastically in coming months. Some of you do not like the other side of this discussion, and that is okay because everyone is entitled to their opinion, but do not sit there and act like your opinion is 100% correct, especially when there is plenty of evidence to support the opposite opinion. --- I HATE ALEX SMITH ...
