No matter how hard I try, I can't get past how intolerant and hateful people on the left are. I never hear any of the racist or hateful rhetoric they accuse people on the right have. Seriously, never. I probably haven't heard a racist utterance in nearly a decade. Well, unless I count all the cis white male hatred that comes from the left on an institutional scale.

But EVERY SINGLE DAY I see leftists calling people morons and pieces of human trash for simply having different opinions than them. I can't take any of the left's opinions seriously when they come off as so arrogant and caustic. Trudeau is liked by the liberal / media class. The US has this impression that everyone up here likes him. He's just our version of Obama. But if you leave downtown Toronto you're in conservative land. Downtown Montreal is thought of a European style oasis. You take a bridge off island and to the small towns down the road and you're in clown land.

As a Canadian and someone who sometimes sees Trump baloney on my FB wall, I think the sentiment is more about "telling it how it is" and looking out for the people. He's seen as an antithesis to Trudeau. It's mostly a crock, but they like the brashness of the guy versus the big city mentality of Trudeau.

Dumb sidenote, but there was a minor controversy up here months ago because Trudeau was in Winnipeg and he bought donuts from a fancy mom and pop shop rather than Tim Hortons. This is the level of pettiness among the anti-Trudeau people. It's not enough that he's a snowflake. The guy is against the most Canadian thing ever!

I am sure whats what they SAY, but there is more to it, just like the tea party down here was about fiscal responsibility and not about Obama being black, and we know how it turned out.

They support the opposite party (Liberal and NDP are more aligned, but the CPC is the opposite). But they look at Trump as the beacon as that sort of conservative thought. And that's because American media still has a big reach up here. Our news shows aren't confrontational and we don't usually have those CNN / Fox / MSNBC panel shows where people yell over each other. Our politics are much more civil. So a guy like Trump is looked at as a guy that people wish existed up here.
