yeah because i wouldn't obsessively hold onto the false idea that it has to be a "story focused game" and i'd be able to admire it for its gameplay

In most cases, yes. In METAL GEAR SOLID'S, case, fucking no. Not at all. The story is the main reason I was playing. The amazing gameplay is just a bonus.

I enjoyed MGSV's story, for the most part, and its gameplay was great.

I just didn't really care for its open-world.

edit: but as far as the topic title goes, it depends.

mostly on the game's genre and length.

That's a special case because I was really expecting so much more from MGSV in every single way imaginable except gameplay

I posted in another topic similar to this and really- it's whatever. Depends on how much I'm having with either the gameplay or story

I like CRPG's like FO because of the gameplay - the story is literally just some large fetch quest but there's enough interesting characters that don't actually relate to the quest that make up for it

Games should be about gameplay

if i wanted a story id watch a movie or tv show. I dont get how people play a game for the story when even the best videogame stories are literally b-movie tier anime quality

We've seen the opposite too with games that focus majority on storyline in place of gameplay like Detroit Being Human and that game sucks
