And I don't care but then I wondered, would I care if it was a character I cared about? Would you?

If the character is long established to be straight and a writer decides to change their orientation without any previous suggestion that they may be bi or gay, I don't really care to support it. Wolverine hasn't been gay this whole time for example, don't try and change that to sell a movie. I feel the same way about changing the race of major characters when it makes no sense. Wtf was Human Torch black?

I'm just answering the hypothetical. The first green lantern got that treatment iirc. It didn't seem like much of a big deal to me since he didn't have a well established background like Hal Jordan or John Stewart.

Why is it so hard to make new characters? Why do people feel it's necessary to politicize every god damn thing? You don't have to force feed your lifestyles and views on everyone. It makes people less sympathetic to your cause.

If the character already had plenty of story development in a straight romance and they just randomly pulled 180 and made them gay without any reason or explanation, it would mildly bother me that all of that development went to waste. Otherwise, I don't really care. Especially in series with multiple different continuities to begin with. There have technically been like 20 different Links across the whole the Legend Of Zelda series due to how the lore works, so if they decided to make one of them gay or make one of them a girl or whatever, that's no big deal at all.

Upset might not be the right word, but I don't imagine I'd be completely okay with it, as most of my favorite characters actually do have canonical love interests, and making them gay would alter their stories to some degree.

Now, if it was a character whose sexuality is completely irrelevant, sure, what do I care?

Ive legitimately thought they should consider making Link gay in a mainline Zelda. Feels like an obvious series where that could work as he could be a good role model for the younger fans of the series as well as the gay community who plays the series already, and since there are lots of different Links it wouldnt go against anything established, or even have to be in future incarnations.

Shepard could already be gay, so no.

I'm not really sure who my favorite video game character is. Mario?

I mean, it would kind of annoy me. The appeal of the character is that he's a dude who fights dragons, collects gold coins, and knocks boots with hotties like Pauline, Peach, and Rosalina.

It'd be better if they made Luigi gay. They've teased it a few times anyway.

I wouldnt be trying to force homosexuality on kids at all (frankly I dont think seeing gay characters effects ones sexuality but thats a different matter).

What I think could be a good role model is if Link was gay in one game, and it wouldnt be a big focus of the story or marketing, say he just happens to have a partner you see a couple times (kinda like how gay characters are already done in kids movies), and the focus is on his bravery and typical good attributes the character has, that would be a good role model for kids. Not that they should be gay, but nothing unusual about a hero or character they look up to being gay.

Plus, as a straight man, I dont think it would take away from the game at all for me, and I know gay people (such as my cousin) who are big fans of the series, and could be nice inclusion for them.
