Here's the thing, I don't like preachy music. I've historically gravitated to songs that encourage you to feel negative, like No Children by the Mountain Goats, and ever since I was a kid I've been extremely fed up with songs that like force a happy demeanor. I've been hurt a lot, and I prefer music that expresses that hurt and a desire for everything to be shit for a solid quarter of my life.

This song will smack you in the face with that preachy, overly happy tone from the get go. The verses are kinda fluffy, more like filler than the chorus is. By all means, if you're not too flash on very cheerful, arguably preachy music, you might be turned off by that opening.

But the beauty of the song is in its repetition. You hear the first chorus, which opens the song, and you roll your eyes. Then you hear the second chorus, and it really stands out compared to the verse you just sat through. Then you hear the third chorus, and it clicks. It's all in the repetition.

I was just walking up the street, and I put the song on. On the second chorus, I started beaming like an idiot. Then when the song ended, I played it again. Beamed like a fucking moron the entire time.

It's a song that earnestly asks you to put on a happy face, to show all the love you feel in your heart, and it tells you that when you're smiling with all that love, people are going to notice and treat you better. Because when all that love is radiating off of your face, you're beautiful and everyone can see it. And frankly, to me at least, that's a major fucking pick me up. I hope it picks you up too.
