"Play" the stock market implies you want to predict it in a way, ie find some cheap lucrative stocks to ride and get rich off of. This is a dim hope because there are people whose jobs are basically to do just that, and even they aren't very good at it. Everyone that trades daily has likely already thought about airline stocks and made their decision to invest or not. So in that sense we consider the future risks to the stock to already be "baked in" to the price they're at. It's not impossible that going all in on Boeing will net a higher return than the market average, but it's not particularly likely either. The strategy with good return for very minor risk is to "diversify your portfolio." If you're invested a little bit into a lot of different, unrelated industries, then even if some underperform, most will increase steadily and some will over perform. If you're investing in random shit trying to strike gold in stocks you arent going to get far.
