Thought this was a fun blog post from Echo Moscow, that explores some of the weird occurrences in Russia pertaining to COVID-19. Honestly a lot of it seems anecdotal and conspiracy theorological but I still enjoyed it >_>

We that is, Russians have already become accustomed to fraud. Thats why we usually suspect some kind of trick in everything. We remember privatization; how smart people initially pushed poorly understood vouchers on us, and then bought these vouchers back from unemployed simple workers and hungry pensioners, and then, with these very papers, gobbled up factories, plants, entire industries, and all of these natural resources that belonged to the people We remember how our investments and savings went up in smoke during the default. We remember how the current authority, with its absolute, dictatorial powers and attitude, was established alongisde the sounds of war in Chechnya and unusual explosions in apartment buildings. We remember how theyve been promising us milk and honey for twenty-five years, and then every time found a new way to rob us blind In other words, life has taught us to be doubtful. The most interesting and terrifying thing is that given these doubts, we almost never make mistakes. And maybe, of course, Nikita Mikhalkov went too far with the conspirology in his latest program which was removed from the air, but I personally understand Mikhalkov very well.

Because no matter how you look at it, theres something specific wrong with this pandemic. Im not saying that theres no virus. And Im not doing to discuss its origin, characteristics, symptoms, etc., because Im not a doctor, biologist nor scientist. Im only going to discuss whats going on around the virus, especially in our country.

Ill start from the most recent developments. Heartbreaking photographs have been circulating around social media and internet sites. People in chemical protection suits, gas masks and rubber boots lower coffins into holes dug out by excavators. Supposedly, thats how coronavirus victims are being buried. In Russia. I would like to reiterate that Im not pretending to be giving any sort of expert assessments and I cannot and will not confirm anything. Im just asking questions. Let someone answer them. Corpses, do they cough and sneeze? As far as I remember, virologists said that the virus is transmitted via aerosol droplets, that it doesnt survive on surfaces, and that dead bodies are not infectious. Is that so? Or, maybe, they forgot to tell us abut the true danger of this illness? Id like to propose a theory. Its possible that the virus turned out to be more mysterious and more infectious than they initially thought. But, its not the plague, right? Why are they suddenly showing us live images from a zombie apocalypse? Does the contagion seep through boarded up coffins? If thats the case, then we need to encase the deceased in zinc coffins and seal their graves with concrete, just like in the popular series about Chernobyl. For some reason, that this whole hellish coffin circus is just a show designed to scare a population thats already scared enough. Nothing sells better than negativity and nightmares

Its the same story with the mobile refrigerated morgues in Saint Petersburg. Why did they do that? Lets look at the coronavirus infection and fatality statistics in the Northern Capital. As of 7 May, the total number of infected in Saint Petersburg was 6,190 people, the total number of recovered was 1,552 people, and the total number of deceased was 44 people. Thats 44 people after a month and a half, not a single day! In one day, between two to four people in the city fall victim to the coronavirus. Youre trying to tell me that an increase of four deaths per day in the city is enough to overwhelm the city morgues?? Are you serious, comrades? Even considering Putins health care system improvements, the backbone of its infrastructure in the cities hasnt changed since the Soviet times. At that time, everything was designed and built with an added level of survivability that was driven by nuclear war. Lets assume that this level, after all the years of the current administrations rule, was improved, broken, plundered and left to rot.

I still cant understand how an additional 44 deceased in a month and a half could overwhelm the city morgues so much, that mobile refrigerated morgues needed to be deployed in the streets. In my opinion, theres no necessity for that at all; its just someones attempt to sneak some money out of the budget under all the noise of the epidemic.

Speaking of money Did you know, my little darlings, that in Moscow up to 200,000 Rubles are allocated to treat each person infected with coronavirus? I didnt just pull that number out of thin air. Its not fake news. And its not rumors. Thats what the deputy mayor of Moscow, Anastasiya Rakova, officially announced on 24 March. <Source link here>

Interesting, is it not? When I first heard this, I thought, if thats really true, then the epidemic in Moscow is never going to end. And you know what? My assumptions were true. The internet and mass media are reporting that doctors in Moscow clinics are giving patients bribes of between 10,000 to 30,000 rubles for them to become sick with the coronavirus. Personally I believe it. Our whole system, including the health care system, is now built on money and aimed at producing profit. Is there anything to be surprised about given the circumstances?? Doctors also need to pay their mortgages and educate and feed their children. And head doctors wouldnt mind living worse off than our bureaucrats who own villas in Florida and other pleasant areas. Lets become realists and start being honest with one another.

What about the fact that there was a wave of suicides across the country by doctors who, lightly put, did not wholeheartedly agree with authorities assessments, actions and decisions regarding coronavirus doesnt that bother anyone? Our doctors are walking out of windows as if by programming. One of the most recent incidents is especially noteworthy. On May 1st, the head doctor of the Krasnoyarsk Hospital for Military Veterans, Yelena Nepomnyashchaya, died. She had fallen from a window on April 25th. Nepomnyashchaya was absolutely opposed to repurposing one of the hospitals wings intended for treating COVID-19 patients. But those at the top applied pressure on her. And on April 26th, Putins representative to the Siberian Federal Okrug, Sergey Menyaylo, presented a report about how the plan for mobilizing additional hospital beds for coronavirus patients had been fulfilled 105%. One has to wonder who needs these records for how high the number of hospital beds had been increased by? And why? It seems to me that right now we dont need to open up additional hospital wings and morgues, but rather actual criminal cases against those governors, bureaucrats and head doctors who, under the auspices of the coronavirus, are creating feeding troughs and meadows for an unprecedented level of embezzlement of government funds.

There are also very interesting things going on with statistics, as well, in conjunction with the fact that doctors have a material interest in having as many corona patients as possible. Since the moment a state of emergency was declared in Moscow and social distancing and an unspoken quarantine were introduced, the number of infected has not only not decreased its gone up by orders of magnitude. With no intent of going down. Authorites are constantly waiting for the plateau. What kind of plateau can there be, unless not all the money has been spent yet?? The authorites of Ossetiya, for instance, have declared that there are 500 infected. There are traditionally strong familial and clan-like connections in the Republic. People, through their own channels, started to dig around to find out who was sick, and couldnt find anyone. Maybe its not worth believing this, either.

But every day, everything thats happening with the coronavirus in our country gives us a reason to doubt, to be suspicious, and yes, even to speculate. In order to make the statistics more understandable, it might make sense to start publishing not just raw numbers, but also the names and surnames of the infected and deceased, like how its done after a terrorist attack or aviation catastrophe. But ultimately, they are trying to convince us every day that this epidemic is scarier than the plague and Chernobyl.

But for now, the questions about whats actually happening just become more numerous with each passing day. And one way or another, we have to find their answers, before it becomes to late.
