I'm highly education (Masters degree), I have worked as an electronic tech, as a legal assistant, as a teacher, in sales, as a cook and many other things over 30 years. Sadly I have a few things that make it hard for me to do most jobs now.

I have back problems, which in a weird twist make it hard for me to stand OR sit for any length of time (I can alternate though).

At home I lay on my side most of the time (and I have to sleep that way). I can probably stand or sit for 4 hours without serious
problems especially if there was like a day between, and......if I can alternate I should be ok.

My eyesight blows, but, I CAN use a magnifying glass to read most stuff in a pinch (as long as it isn't as small as like on a perscription bottle). It would be hard/annoying to do that constantly. I need a larger then normal monitor though to read off (can't do a normal laptop anymore.

At home I have a huge 4k smart Tv that I use so I can read. Working from home seems like the best idea over all, but have no clue how to get legit jobs from home.

I can hear normally, and am friendly. I've had many jobs dealing with customer service and have always liked them.

I do have 1 BIG requirement though, I can't STAND doing nothing. I need to keep busy. I guess if I could read or something in down time that would be ok....but just standing around is not me, I would hate any job that involved that, and I would rather be homeless then be paid to be bored.

I like kids and have worked as a nanny before, I could do something like that again, and even have an ad out for it. I'd like other ideas though. I used to tutor but with my reading problems now, it would be pretty hard, even for math which I love teaching/tutoring (Cause you know, I actually need to see the numbers lol).

Also I have to try and avoid high stress situations, I have high blood pressure and am already taking the max meds I can, so yeah, stress is bad.

I would prefer to remain active and to make a difference if I could. I could qualify for disability but literally had to fight to not have them put me on it. IF I make it to 60 (10 years) I will accept social security since I paid into it, but that is it.

So any suggestions on things I could do? I can move anywhere, I have no family, I moved to Tacoma for a job that fell through, so no friends here (all are long distance at this point). I learn anything super fast and have been good at any job I have ever done, but my current limitations are gonna make finding one that fits really hard.

I had always thought you were 70-80, not 50 >_<

So to summarize:

~ 4 hours of sitting or standing in a row
~ little reading other than your TV screen
~ little physical activity
~ can relocate anywhere for the job

I was going to suggest math tutoring using full sheets of paper and a sharpie, but not sure how bad the eyesight is to be able to obtain the problems.

Some writing or online teaching jobs?

Jesus dude, just take disability. Your health is terrible. All that and you're only 50?

I'm the oldest living family member going back 3 gens actually. My brother was 2 years younger than me and died at 40. Everyone died of heart attacks. I've stayed in good shape (well goodish), and active unlike them, which is prob why I'm alive.

They all took disabillty and died by 50 because they basically didn't do much after that, gained weight, and that caused other complications. My mother died on the toilet (hopefully quickly), my brother died waiting in a bed in the emergency room at a hospital. My grandmother was evacuated by helicopter but died on the way etc.

I would like tutoring but yeah, reading is hard already and will get worse, eventually I won't be able to see even my TV but hopefully that is years down the road. I might be able to still handle it, but I kinda lump that into being a nanny (I would probably tutor the kids as well). I took care of my family of 4, including 2 bed bound/disabled adults for years, so I'm quite good at shopping/ccoking, doing dishes etc. I like feeling useful so that is what I am currently looking at, have ads for. I really thought there would be more families/parents who were desperate for a teacher to work with their kids right now, but have not heard anything.

I might try being an online teacher at a university, I do have a masters so I can do that I guess. I may check into that later. I know I said work at home, but honestly a reason to LEAVE the house would be nice lol. I have thought of just being a cook at a decent place to eat nearby, but I have very little cooking experience (just when I was very young), and there is no way i'm working my way up as a dishwasher (Hate washing dishes lol...I did that as a kid before I was 16 for little ceasars).

If I was in a bit better shape (once this virus thing is over maybe i'll get there), It would be awesome if I could be a white water rafting guide lol, I used to love doing that, but I'd obviously have to go and see if I'm still even up to it. I used to mountain climb as well, but those days are gone. I could certainly be a guide for low level rivers though.

Could also just do retail again, but only work like 4 hours at a time (so part time work). Main thing is most of those jobs pay almost nothing, so I might as well just volunteer somewhere and make more of a difference while leaving those jobs for people who really need it.

Wish I could do something about my eyes but it's not just the diabeties, I have Miopia I think it's called so my vision is narrowing, estigmatisim and cataracts so between all that, my eyesight gets significantly worse every year.

Hardest part is I REALLY need to stay busy, I suck at doing nothing, the worst jobs I ever had, the only ones I hated, were the ones I had to stand around and wait. I still, after all these years, have to constantly keep myself occupied and it's exhausting.

I moved to Tacoma to work as a teacher for Champions which is an after school/teaching program foo K-5. I should probably just apply at a bunch of them, and then move to which ever one hires me. They have alot of advantages, multiple teachers in each room, shorter hours (4-5 hours per day...basically 30 minutes before school ends till 6:30 at night), you are certainly always busy *lol*, and you get to work with a large group of kids and are very appreciated by the parents.

That does require me to move again though, but it's the best solution I see right now.

I could try for gov jobs, not just post office. It is a good idea. They usually value higher degrees alot, they have full benefits etc, main prob would just be the standing/sitting as they are usually full time (40 hours). I think you do get the option to sit or stand at the post office (As I have seen people do both).

That is a good suggestion, thank you.

And if I did work at the DMV or post office I would be REALLY making a difference as I generally work 3x as fast as most people (And get 3x as much done), which would probably be extremely appreciated at either place lol.

A lot of office jobs have standing desks now. Or you can request it if you want. You can raise and lower your desk as desired throughout the day.

Yeah, I may use a few higher end job placement agencies after this is over and see ii I can find a good office job that will fit my needs. I can still type super fast, but would prob need a larger than normal size monitor (they are not that expensive though if I could bring my own).
