Read to Die is just the full edition from the original release. Remastered is an updated one with better graphics and stuff.

Remastered runs at a proper framerate and lets you disable the PvP systems as well as the awful depth of field and motion blur effects

Scholar of the First Sin, DS2 *with* the DLCs and re-mixed encounters... yes. Items in each DLC can be equipped to re-balance encounters in the main game.

And, no, but some items in DS2 are related to DS1 characters and events by lore.

So Dark Souls: Prepare to Die is the base edition of the first game, I don't think it has the DLC with it. It's not recommended at all. Get the remastered edition because the Dark Souls: PtD is terribly optimized
Remastered has some QOL changes but is actually optimized and has the DLC in it.

Dark Souls 2 is not recommended on PC, due to the 60FPS durability bug (weapons break twice as fast). Get Scholar of the First Sin - it remixes a few things but it's a fine game on its own and comes with the DLC.

There are some items and stuff but it's not really a story that follows on in depth, it's more of a "play the game for the gameplay" thing

Dark Souls remastered also allows more co op partners than the original release, making pvp and coop much easier than originally intended iirc

Yeah pretty sure they removed the ability to buy the original version.
Just a heads up, go to the forest first, when you eventually kill the first boss there, talk to the merchant lady over and over until she repeats herself, she'll warp to Majula and you can buy infinite life gems from her.

So Dark Souls: Prepare to Die is the base edition of the first game, I don't think it has the DLC with it.
The Prepare to Die edition of DS1 has both DLCs ('Artorias of the Abyss' expansion, 'Battle of Stoicism' arena).

Also, it is a re-mixed version of the game.

Also, buy like 10k worth if souls items from her and she gives you a pretty swell ring for a newer player.

why do ppl backseat game Souls before people even buy the game

part of the enjoyment of Souls is learning as you go and exploration

having someone just backseat game for you really takes away from the game

Because unlike the other games, estus ugprades are pretty rare early on. Meaning the main healing is incredibly limited. The thing about the merchant moving there after the first boss isn't known and basically means the player is at a disadvantage if they're not aware of it.

It's not like I'm telling him what build to do. I'm telling him a mechanic he definitely wouldn't be aware of that makes the game a lot more playable.

which still takes away from the sense of exploration and learning the game on your own

What a weird hill to die on. We added something so very minimalist. Nothing plot related or anything. Instead of just having someone bash their head against a wall and possibly quitting. The sadism of some of this fanbase is just the worst.

And again, you're taking away the learning curve of the game.

There are tons of things that arent blatantly obvious to the player, so why not stop listening them and just keep going
