you have to be either actively trying or super obnoxious to be modded, and even then people always get away with it

I haven't been active on this site in a great many years now, but I do remember it used to be really easy to get moderated, so back in the day, I certainly felt like I was walking on eggshells at times.

Going by the current rules, it looks like things are a lot more relaxed now.

No. I feel like it's pretty easy to post here most of the time and the mods are generally lenient.

Only time I got modded, not including nkl's was some comment about women and sandwiches that offended one of the girly-man mods.

No. But none of those opinions apply for me. The moderation staff isnt the problem. Its the numerous trolls and their enablers shit posting across the board both thinking theyre not the problem.

That said I do make sure to check myself when I post that Im taking the time to attack the content of someones post and not the poster.

some people are definitely overly sensitive and permanently triggered but i wouldn't compare ce to resetera. you can take a non-left stance and not get instantly banned here. go try to post a thoughtful non-lefty argument and see how far you get on sites like reddit, resetera, or neogaf. i think the problem lots of people have with this site is they treat it like those other ones and think they can post they hope other people that dont agree with them die or some shit. then they get modded and have meltdowns and blame the mods because they cant call everyone hitler and nazis.

Only when I think about using a derogatory term referring to a part of the human body, which the word filter outright doesn't let you post.

It's a strong expletive, and I understand why it's one of the words that the word filter outright does not let you say, but it's one of those strong, emphasised words that's kind of engrained in my culture. It's the strongest word you can use to emphasise something painful, and it's a heavy condemnation of whatever you're talking about.

Sometimes when I'm discussing a topic that's as low as discourse on this site can go, the desire to slip in this expletive is so incredibly strong - just to add emphasis to the sheer distaste I have for the subject at hand. I get caught up in the process of replacing that word, including rewriting the last few lines to take it in another direction. That's the only time I feel like I'm walking on eggshells - if there's a statement that's worth being moderated for, I'll make it.
