Just finished the 2nd episode pretty solid so far, pretty happy they jumped into the mini trials early. Definitely excited to see them get to the real exam.

The characters so far are pretty basic. Kurapika's pretty cool though and Gon is a lot more bearable than expected. Leorio on the other hand is so obnoxious he might as well be voiced by Yuri Lowenthal. Who knows though, theyll probably go somewhere with his greediness.

Aaaaaand Hisoka's intro was pretty intimidating, although Tonpa might be a bigger psychopath than the clown.

I have been interested in Gundam overall, is G Gundam a good starting point once I feel like watching it?

yeah I'm not super big on gundam and only seen a few odds and ends but basically you have the Universal Century series going like this

original/0079 -> Zeta -> ZZ Gundam -> Char's Counterattack

There's movie versions of the original and Zeta. the movies covering the original series are often recommended if you can't stand the wacky dated 70s animation of the tv series, although the Zeta movies have a different ending than the tv show.

then you have a bunch of OVAs and movies and such that fit in various gaps around the timeline (0080, 0083, 08th MS Team, Unicorn, Origin, Hathaway's Flash, etc..) although there's some that aren't really canon or are alternate takes

after that, you get into late UC (F91, Victory) and post UC (X, Turn A, G-Reco) stuff, where there's less emphasis on continuity and such and are probably more able to be watched as standalone.

then you have alternate universes/timelines. Seed, 00, Iron Blood Orphans.

and then lastly you have Build Fighters series, which is more of a toy commercial for models where you have japanese kids building models from various series and having them fight in tournaments so the tone is a lot lighter. you could probably watch it without being familiar with other series, though there's a lot of references to them that you might not get.

I watched up through episode 6 or 7? Whichever one they boil the eggs in.

Here's my character thoughts so far

Gon - Probably one of the stronger Shonen protags I've seen. I like that he manages to come off as childlike without being annoying. Also his motivation is pretty great. I like how instead of looking for his dad or trying to be like his dad. He's trying to rationalize why his dad left him, which is both really sad and really adorable. So it's great.

Kurapika - He's alright, definitely playing up the level headed badass trope which is fine, but I want to see them go further with it.

Leorio - Egh, he's getting better. I liked seeing him turn around to fight Hisoka, and his backstory is starting to be more interesting. But he's still the obnoxious sidekick and I'm just kinda sick of that archetype at this point.

Killua - He's great, it's not often that you get a character who's really badass, but also childlike. Can't wait to see him do more.

Hisoka - Probably the coolest character so far, he seems crazy initially, but you can tell there's a complexity to him. He's got goals and has no qualms killing people that slow him down or get in his way. Can't wait to see where he goes.

Overall I'm excited to see where it goes, especially if it gets as good as you guys say.

HxH is a constant increases until just before the end, and even then it's still a step above.

The high before that is just too intense to match.

Both YYH and HxH will be well worth your time. I'd personally have started with YYH, but that will still be there when you're done with HxH and want more.

Law of Ueki's not too bad either, but definitely a distant third. It had some really cool moments that still make me grin when I think about them, but also suffers from some pretty meh plot points.

I'm really in the mood for an action anime, almost like a Shonen, but a lot shorter, better written and less filler.

I like the heavy focus on weapons/abilities as well as interesting combat matchups. Tournament arcs tend to help with that a lot.

Maybe something like Bleach, Soul Eater, or MHA. But like I said without a lot of their flaws.

The Law of Ueki

I wasnt sure if I should say this but since other people are then this.

I do have to admit its not AS good as Yuyu or Hunter as well, but I still like it a lot.

Would like to say that anybody mentioning the likes of YYH and HxH here should REALLY go check out the new ongoing anime Tower of God. It's based off of a Korean manga, and though the show is only set to go for 1 season right now it's extremely likely it will continue, and it has some serious HxH influence.

The original series is also super long and ongoing, apparently this 1st season will likely only cover half of what is considered the prologue. I intend to start reading it shortly.

It's one of the Crunchyroll funded series for the season, yes. Both it and the other one, Villainess in Another World, are arguably the best shows of the season.

It's a strong season, though, even with all the big name shows delayed!

Just finished episode 7.

Woah Killua, like seriously. He's probably my favorite character at this point.

I really like where they're going with his and Gon's friendship. It's almost like Naruto/Sasuke's dynamic, but done well.

That was also probably the best episode so far. It managed to get me insanely hyped while still being a fun episode in it's own right

I like both Kurapika and Leorio more than Killua, and there's also probably around 2-4 characters who haven't been met yet that I would rank above him.

All that said, Killua is definitely great yes.

Pariston is great but I'd need to see more of him before he breaks into the top tier of HxH characters. (I have not read the manga, and though I know he appears in arcs after the anime ends also I am not factoring those in)

Just finished the 5 vs. 5 episodes and this show is definitely picking up steam as these were all great.

I loved seeing the variety in all the different matches, especially with all the outwitting and strategizing.

More Gon and Killua was great, but it was really nice seeing some Kurapika and Leorio love. Even if everytime Leorio does something cool he ends up just being annoying again.

Tonpa's going to get his comeuppance eventually and I'm really looking forward to that.

Finally It's pretty refreshing to see the show actually be pretty dark this early on. Most other shows usually don't do that til later on. It almost scares me to think about what's going to happen.
