The idea of playing as a villain and hunting down the old player character sounds fun.

That is one way to look at it, I doubt that is still a good POV since most people seem to have liked the main characters in the first game.

Yet the female surgeon hammed it up the most so them basing a story based off that the most actually rewards the original players. Wish I coulda gotta got that without asshole predatory leaks.

Liking the original characters only makes this POV more compelling, since if it were random mooks or boring heroes I wouldn't be as invested.

I never played the games but even I think they have handled TLOU 2 poorly.

If they wanted to make a game that killed the original characters you HAVE to make the person doing them in very sympathetic and give people a reason to say I see where they are coming from.

TLOU 2 should have shown the new character only, show them interacting with their family, and then show how this character lost loved ones because of the actions the original cast of characters took.

Then dont show the event just haven them hunting the people responsible, and the wham moment is when you catch up to them showing oh shit the original characters are the people your pissed at. That is effective and well done narrative, what they are actually doing is stupid and the way you lose the fanbase.

Well from what I heard not all the cutscenes have been leaked, so there may very well be stuff to elicit sympathy.

Based on how the Abby character has been shown I highly doubt it, and how they have her killing people not even responsible like a love interest of a main character shows nah you have no sympathy from me, your just a piece of shit.

Vengeance should only be inflicted on the people responsible not their loved ones.

Once again, Ellie lives and the person who killed Joel was a desperate daughter who hsd the saddest death besides draughter in the original.

No one has sympathy for a character who kills a pregnant woman.

From a basic storytelling standpoint it sounds very backwards and wrong. Like maybe they think her backstory is sympathetic but it's really not. There's no motivation to play as this character. Feels very shoe horned. Like the two characters we grew accustomed to and survived so much from the first game just get done in like some random characters who survived a horror movie and made it to the sequel just to get killed off quick? Idk. Seems odd.

It could be interesting, depends on the execution. Wasn't the original tlou heralded for its execution rather than originality of plot?

I think it's fair enough people like the original characters and don't want to see them offed or not be part of the sequel in a major way. A lot of people seem to be extrapolating that to provide these overarching theories on what the game does otherwise though which is dumb.

Again I don't think it's inherently typical. Them having endless plot armour in a post apocalyptic wasteland seems equally 'unlikely'

TLOU was a super generic plot and storyline, the execution and acting was praised.

Good acting and directing can make any script watchable.

We live in a timeline where this plot hook was wasted in a video game instead of Kill Bill Volume 3.

It's always funny to me when internet discourse seemingly turns away from a previously extremely popular methods of storytelling. Like how TLJ was met with all this ironic 'subverting expectations!!' stuff from people who loved big unexpected plot twists for years before or unhappiness with prominent characters dying after it proved so popular in, say, game of thrones and after the lack of main characters dying due to plot armour being cited as a big annoyance with later seasons. Feel like this stuff is often used as a fig leaf for something else

Just because it fits Game of Thrones does NOT mean it is right for Star Wars. Unlike SW the GOT universe is a bleak shit hole where bad things always happen to good people.

SW is very different from that and no one who actually loves SW wanted any GOT influences.

People just want the same familiar beats over and over, and the "subversion" or "change" they want to follow those same plot patterns.

Anything that actually tries something new or different is heavily derided.
