Got into an argument on Facebook about this and they're acting like it's not a big deal because young people won't die from it.

most conservative thoughts and principles are dictated by the corporate powers that be.

They're then trickled down to the conservative base through a combination of religious excuses, racist excuses and false "MUH BOOTSTRAPS" bravado excuses, these 3 kind of excuses have been used since the inception of the southern strategy to make conservative voters vote and fight for things that go against their interests. For example, disappearing welfare.

Disappearing welfare is good for corporate bottom lines, as people will work for less and the state will have more money to give to corporations in the the form of tax breaks. So they use the 3 excuses (race, religion, bootstrap bravado) and stitch this narrative: "black welfare queens and illegals use welfare, not us real americans, plus it's laziness is a sin, and also, we would rather work since we pull ourselves by our boot straps".

Covid deaths? Same thing. "It's ok if COVID kills us, please open everything, only immigrants are dying from COVID, my pastor said I won't get COVID and I want to work".

They went from all lives matter to its ok if some die just because they had to stay inside for 5 weeks and couldnt get a haircut. The Selfish party strikes again.

I kinda get the sentiment of theyre old and close to dying anyway! but how does that help the problem? How does that fight corona? You realize you will get older too, right? That doesnt even start to factor in loved ones. Sure you dont care if a faceless person you dont know dies because youre a selfish POS. But let that be your 55 year old mom and Im sure youre singing a different song.

At the risk of taking this seriously, maybe they aren't in such denial that people die eventually, to the point of thinking all measures must be taken to save a life that has a year or 2 left in it.

I know it seems cold, and it probably it, but at the same time I find the other side more concerning in the big picture. It's that circle of life thing. People don't live forever, and while the doesn't mean take on the Logan's run tactic, it's easy to hit financial ruin trying to fight it forever. I have begun to wonder if we're keeping people alive for their sakes (under quarantine for an indeterminate future) or for ours in not wanting to face mortality, even in another person.

See, I can sympathize if you were struggling financially pre-pandemic. But a lot of these protests seem rooted in "MUH RIGHTS"

It's not only or always about money.

Most young people don't want to spend the rest of their lives in confinement, isolation and detachment.

The elderly already does it, so why would the young want to be drug down too because they're young and have a better chance at surviving this doomsday virus?

A working vaccine could take like 2 to 10 years I hear.

Then maybe they'll never figure out a vaccine.

Then you've spent that time waiting for nothing.

If youre the same user whose posts/political views I remember seeing on here in the past...Youre willing to see people die in the name of livelihoods but against paying people more so they can even afford a livelihood. What strange morals you live by. There are 60 and 70 year olds still working for their livelihood.

But youd be ok with them dying to save a small
business, because you dont know them. But fuck paying them (and younger people) a livable wage. People dying as some sort of sacrifice, ok. Raising wages, communist and bad. jfc.

Everything conservatives (in the US at least) have ever claimed is a lie. The past few years have demonstrated that.

They have no morals, do not uphold the Consitution and do not believe the shit they preach.

Right now they are arguing against states rights
Opposing the 11th amendment (and others)
Actively causing harm and death to innocent people
Repeatedly lying about undisputed scientific and historical facts.

The defense of the Trump Administration and response to the Corona Virus has demonstrated that. Any American that claims to be "conservative" but isn't utterly furious at the Republican party right now is a liar.

If I was a conservative I'd be more angry at the Republican party than the liberals right now for pissing on everything i stood for while claiming to represent me.

I used to be pretty damn moderate but these past 5 or so years have made it impossible to claim The Republican party aren't hypocritical immoral liars and nearly all conservatives support them without question.

It makes me sick and worried for the future

It's really weird seeing the people who always talked about how great it would be when the old people died off so they wouldn't be able to vote anymore are suddenly hardcore about saving them at any cost.
