I don't understand why Ubisoft didn't move to a new IP for games like Odyssey and Valhalla that are clearly only tied to the Assassin's Creed name for brand recognition.

Actually I guess I do get it.

The premise looks good, and I like how they brought back the concepts the homestead in AC 3 had.

The core narrative was finished, like, 10 years ago. There's nothing really defining what Assassin's Creed is anymore except historical adventure that just so happens to take place inside a computer. And they were clearly bored of the animus a few games into the series anyway. There's been a ton of variety in the series all throughout. Why not keep this stuff under their flagship franchise? It's not like we're ever getting "old school" Assassin's Creed games again.

Because then they have to half ass in the animus plot that you have pointed out they clearly don't care about so that it's still Assassin's Creed. Bonus points for Assassin's Creed games that don't actually involve the titular Assassins.

But the animus plot is almost completely optional. I couldn't even tell you who was in the machine or what was going on in the current time in Origins. It's always taken a back seat to the history and, since Desmond died, they've all but hidden in the trunk. Besides, this is a lot closer to the times of the other games than the last two. There might be assassins and creeds running around all over the place now.

That's what really made me mad about Oydssey though.

I know exactly who was in there in Origins - Layla Hassan. After the five or six AC games where there were no meaningful modern day sequences, they brought back the sort of classic modern day experience from the original trilogy.

And they even ended the game on a cliff hanger and I was excited to see what happened to her.

And they totally butchered her story in Odyssey.

The trailer pretty clearly depicts a full on Templar/Assassin war so let's not pretend it won't be in the story

I kinda dont even know what the story was with her in Odyssey. What was she trying to do? I remember I beat the game and she was like, wow so that happened, and then it ended. What was it all for?

That's why I liked it >_>. IIRC that's how Desmond's story got started - they kind of give you a little bit but then his story really took off in 2 and beyond.

At any rate, I thought it was good. Gave us a solid character to latch onto again, since none of the games between 3 and Origins had a modern day character to care about or develop.

But that's kind of my point with Odyssey they just ruined whatever potential they could have explored with Layla by just ignoring this cliffhanger ending and fastforwarding two years. I'm 69% through Odyssey and I don't really even care about the modern day stuff any more in the game and what I do remember from the first sequence or two is that she did some stuff with the Assassins and it's like a bunch of inside jokes I don't get.

Really lame -_-

Finish Odyssey. The end of the dlc is wild for the modern day.

These new ACs just seem like lame generic open world games with hundreds of hours of busy work, don't get the appeal

Are you new to Ubisoft? That's been their model for ten years.

Ass ass in screed is a franchise I lost interest in after the first.

I also resent proprietary publisher launchers.

True. I guess it just feels like AC still gets a lot of typically more discerning people excited/interested whereas other ubi IPs get shit on

I also lost interest in the series after playing halfway through the first one, but they actually get a lot better. Like... a shit ton better.

Same. Really thought AC3 would be it but they fucked that up.
