Only just started, but wasn't Nate's brother introduced in either Uncharted 2 or 3? I don't really remember the story of any of the games, but I seem to remember either a younger or older brother who was a screwup but still had Nate's back? Something like that?

And wasnt there a past segment in 3 that showed how Nate first met Sully? How does that fit in with this new catholic orphanage backstory?

Just wanted a refresher on the 3 games before going back to 4. I remember Elena, but don't remember if the third one had them together or anything.

Nate ran away from the orphanage with his brother to be a thief and just was by himself doing a heist when he met Sully.

He didn't like, just stay with Sully forever after they met.

He got separated from his brother at some point presumably before Golden Abyss.

Sam isn't in the first three.

And it showed Nathan meeting Sully in UC3. Apparently he's actually wearing a shirt that Sam wears in a flashback of UC4. Anyway, they left the orphanage eventually.

Nope. He wasn't introduced, mentioned or alluded to in any of the previous games. In Uncharted 3 we saw young Nate meet Sully. Sully asked him how he learned Latin and Nate said "the nuns sort of insisted on it". Sully asked him if he went to a boarding school and Nate said "that's a nice way of putting it". So growing up in the orphanage was always part of his backstory

Whats weird about the Sully thing is the wiki page says Sam is the one who met him first, and introduced him and Nate.

sully met nate when they were both trying to get a certain treasure when nate was a teenager. sully throws away his current job and puts himself in danger when sully's partner tries to shoot nate for the treasure.

sam is wholly introduced in 4, but nate does mention he was in a catholic boarding school/orphanage in uncharted 3 in passing

Sam did meet him first and talked about him but never mentioned his name to Nate. They ended meeting by accident later.

Ok never mind I think I may have been remembering Burn Notice instead, where Michael's brother is called Nate and was considered a screwup but still always had his brother's back. The similarity in brothers and older friend in Sully/Bruce Campbell made me mix the 2 franchises up.

Fun fact: the segment with the Panamanian jail is referenced all the way back in Uncharted 2

Ok so they never even mentioned he had a brother in all 3 games, that clears things up thanks. I think I'm up to speed now with the plot

And the reason Sam was never brought up before is because it is a touchy subject.

Pretty convenient, but at the same time it's pretty contrived writing.

Yeah I'm gonna give it a pass for using the "probably too difficult to talk about" thing to handwave him never mentioning he had a brother even though from the opening it shows him and Elena now married so what did he not discuss his childhood with her at all, or just exclude his brother from the stories?

Posts ITT are implying Sully knew he had a brother but I haven't reached that far yet so we'll see.

I mean, I won't say any spoilers but later in the game that definitely comes up as a plot point. I haven't finished the game yet either but it comes a little early so I don't know if it grows into something bigger or not.

Yeah pretty much. She's like "what the fuck you never told me you had a brother"
