They're already infected. The masks prevent you from spreading the disease not from getting it, unless the mask has a respirator in it. Those masks are supposed to be reserved for health care workers only.

2) N95 or better provide the best respiratory protection but wont prevent covid-19
2A) any kind of facial protection does reduce the viral load though (think of huge globs vs aerosol particles)
2B) reducing a load will give your immune system a better fighting chance. ie- no mask equals more viral loads, if you've got masks on, you may be reducing that load by 50%

Ok. i don't know what surgical masks do versus non-surgical cloth masks. I know the N95s with the respirators have a significant mitigating affect on getting the virus because of the filtering. I haven't heard anything here that a plain cloth mask (don't know about surgical masks or how they differ) reduces the chances of you getting infected by any significant margin. They are telling us to wear them here in case you are asymptomatic so you don't spread your own germs. They aren't telling us these masks reduce our risk of getting it.

Why are people saying masks wont protect you? They certainly do protect you but N95 is the best type you can find. Surgical masks next.

Our leadership have already been vaccinated most likely.

Because we're literally being told this by government health bodies regarding cloth masks. I'm not talking about masks for health care workers like N95 or others. They don't want us wearing these anyway because they want them reserved for frontline workers.

Ok - and I can show you a bunch of articles that say there isn't really any proof they do protect you in any meaningful way. You can google these easily. Even the Canada health website isn't saying that a cloth masks protects you. There's no mention of it. Just that it stops you from spreading. I know a mask probably makes a lot of people feel better or maybe more protected and it's a good psychological boost. That's fine. Just don't get complacent and stop the more useful things like social distancing, not touching your face etc.

I said the peak would happen mid april and daily new cases would go down from there - again, called an extremist troll because this would be "peaking in july or until we had a vaccine and need a lockdown until then"

Same thing with the masks. Everything I'm saying is corroborated by other people and can be easily verified by a quick google search.
