It's far from hot garbage and but not exactly an A+ quality movie. The plot is good enough. It's generally well acted. It was a cool alien human hybrid. Had some great scenes. It does a great job of keeping the "species" sexy, mysterious and terrifying. Species 2, while i get what they were going for, it was still a mess of a movie and just a bit too much. The male alien form was also comically bad. However it does set up to the third movie quite nicely. Species 3, is pretty solid. Probably the best movie of the bunch oddly enough. They tried to go much more into what the hell "species" was. Had some great moments. We see the downsides to what a male "species alien" does. Unlike his female counterpart he was willing to get anything pregnant and created a bunch of "sick" children. Unlike the female who was very selective in her breeding partner. Species 4, a nice attempt at a reboot to revive the franchise. A solid starting point. Sadly we never get the sequel. In 4 movies, the biggest flaw is, they never really give any clear indication what the "species" is beyond it makes everyone an alien hell bent on mass reproduction. Why did the alien even pick up our signal in the first place? Why was on it mars? Is it just a parasite or does it have it's own form? It really doesn't go into it's own lore enough.
