So digging up more info on this, I found out that a Blizzard spokesperson said Blitzchung's ban was not out of corporate interests with China, but rather because he didn't want someone using their game as a platform for their politics.

Is this credible? I REALLY hope it's the case, not that it makes Blizzard look good or anything.

How many months ago was this?

And yes, that was the reason Blizzard always gave. It's not inconsistent with how they've responded to other, far lesser events...however, it's also consistent with how major corporations respond to anything related to China, too.
