There's a pretty damn solid PS sale going on right now ( https://blog.us.playstation.com/2020/04/23/save-up-to-50-with-playstation-stores-big-in-japan-sale/ - there's the link, since I don't think I saw another thread on it, and there are honestly some solid deals in there), and I'm considering picking a few things up, but I'd like some input on if they're worth it.

I'm considering:

Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition for $17.49, which I feel like I've seen highly mixed things on all around. It seems like some love it and some hate it. I'm also trying to establish what Royal Edition comes with, since there are so many editions and DLC packs and stuff, so I'm not sure if it's everything or not.

Persona Dancing All Night Collection for $21. It has 3/4/5 all in one, and I've considered those individually for around $20 each in the past, but I ultimately decided to hold off. I wasn't sure if those were good or not, since I've heard very little about them.

Star Ocean First Departure R ($15) or SO Integrity and Faithlessness ($12). I kinda dropped the SO series a while back, but I did enjoy 3, so I wasn't sure if 5 was as mediocre as 4 was, and if the SO1 remake was good or not.

The Last Remnant Remastered ($10). I felt like I heard good things about this aaaages ago, but I'm not really sure.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven Bundle ($9). I like Jojo, but anime games can be...not good. I know absolutely nothing about this one, but it's cheap and from a show I like, so I've vaguely considered it out of sheer curiosity.

Basically, I have a few things in mind that I'd consider based on series that I like/used to like, but with entries that I haven't seen any solid opinions on to be sure if they're worth grabbing. If anyone has played those and can give an opinion on if they're worth it or not, I'd really appreciate the input.

When Last Remnant came out for Switch I was told that it was way too difficult. Probably better off skipping that one

Star Ocean 1 and 5 are great games. You could easily get 30 dollar of fun out of both titles.

I personally went with Super Neptunia RPG. It looks like it play like Valkyrie Profile, so ill see how that goes.

I haven't played anything from the OP, but from the link, I recommend: Dark Souls 3, Judgment, and Yakuza 0, if you haven't played any of them.

Judgment and Yakuza 0 are basically JRPGs with brawling elements rather than turn-based combat, where the (expansive) stories deal with crime and political corruption instead of saving the world affairs.

I have mixed feelings about FF15. I enjoyed parts of it while other sections are absolute chores to play through. Also you need to watch movies/anime to get a full grasp of the plot which is just dumb.

I played and beat SO5. I remember almost nothing about the plot. It's pretty mediocre but I wouldn't say that it's bad or anything. I thought that 4 was actually bad. It's at least better than that game.

Haven't played any of the others.

I've played DS3 (along with the DLC), loved it.

I actually own Y0, I got it for cheap a while back, but I haven't gotten around to it just yet. I probably will pretty soon.

Judgment, my friend recommended that I do Y0 first to determine if I like it or not, since they're pretty similar.

I'm not super put off by difficulty unless it's like...outrageous to the point of being unfun. I'll have to look into that, I guess.

...Well, definitely some conflicting responses there.

I'm admittedly wary about SO5. I didn't...hate?...SO4, but it was really flawed and definitely not great. I kind of told myself I was probably done with the series after that, but I wasn't sure if SO5 turned out to be better or not.

Yeah, I feel like I hear mixed things about FF15 all around. Definitely a tough one to get a grasp on there. I've been kind of waiting for it to get really cheap, and it's at least in the range that I'd consider it in now.

Seems like the opinions are a bit negative towards SO5 at the moment.

One thing that I should have noted in the first post is that I'm almost certainly getting AI: The Somnium Files, and I'm mostly looking for like 1-3 things to grab along with it. So I'm mostly looking for the best few things from the list, and it's sort of sounding like SO5 might not be one from what I'm seeing thus far.

the gameplay is kinda different, iirc, since the guy in Judgment is more mobile that Kazuma.

but besides that, from what I've seen, yea. Judgment is a spin-off of the Yakuza series, but idk if you need to have played the other games to enjoy it.

Final Fantasy XV is all flash and no substance. Avoid

The Dancing All Night games are not great, worse versions of the same companies other games

First Departure is a great game. I&F is good but kind of short for a star ocean game

Never played The Last Remnant

Eyes of Heavens enjoyment factory entirely revolves around how much you love Jojo. Its a clunky unintuitive and weirdly unresponsive mess of a game with a really stupid story, but it has fan service out the ass if that appeals to you

The main thing people had against SO5 is that there isnt a ton to explore. It is pretty linear. And the "cutscenes" happen quite often, and they are the in game type where you walk along a character and they talk to you. So you cant really skip them, so with repeat play throughs it can be annoying (but for a one and done playthrough, its not a big deal).

But it does have some good things going for it. The battle system is very smooth and fun to play with. There is an easy to do combo system that flows very well.
Having 7 party members in a battle can be really fun.
Its got the crafting like always, so if you want to make some redonk gear like in previous games, you can.
The Voice Acting isnt horrible. But its not anything to write home about.

Overall it is a very enjoyable game that people like to dog on. For less than 15 bucks, you will probably enjoy it.

The Persona Dancing games aren't RPGs but rhythm games. They aren't bad as those go and the music is good, but your mileage will vary on if you liked the cast of each of the games. 4 actually serves as [another] final adventure for the cast and serves as a nice farewell. 3 and 5 were literally "the other guys got a dancing game so we should too" as far as main story goes, but they have the social links ladders so you can get little vignettes on everyone.

If you liked any from Persona 3 - 5, their corresponding dance game won't be a waste of time.

The impressions that I'm getting thus far...

FFXV people are still highly mixed on.

SO5 it seems like some people love and others hate.

Opinions on SO1 seem positive.

TLR seems like a skip.

Persona Collection is iffy (though, for what it's worth, even if it's similar to other games, I really love P3/4/5, so fanservice alone would push me more towards Persona than other games that are similar).

Jojo is a hard skip. (I like the series, but not enough to try it if it's that bad).

I haven't personally played it, but my friend streamed it a few months ago, and I know most of what happens in it. I'll probably skip it just because I've seen almost all of the plot already.

Yeah, that's kind of what I'm feeling. They seem like just okay rhythm games with a lot of fanservice from a series that I really love. With that in mind, they're probably worth it to me on that level (especially for the full set at $20, that's a really tempting price for three in one).

I'll consider it/look into it.

For what it's worth, I'm not just considering JRPGs, but most of what I'm considering otherwise consists of some fighting games that I already know a bit about and may snag. The ones I've listed are just the ones that caught my eye but that I don't know enough about to decide upon for sure.

I'm open to other suggestions, but I've played a chunk of things on the sale, so they may be hit or miss there.

If you did like the story and characters, then just the Persona 4 one would be worth the $20, and the other 2 serve as a nice bonus.

Eyes of Heaven gameplay wise is like the worst of the worst of those DBZ games, BUT, the story is basically Araki co-signed fan fiction and is super enjoyable on that front

The Cold Steel games are also on sale. Can recommend those.

I'm kinda annoyed by the Dark Souls 3 thing, though.

I recently bought Dark Souls 3 and the season pass for a little less than $40, and now here's the deluxe edition for about $21.

if only I knew about this sale beforehand :/

The Fire Fades Edition, which is the same as the deluxe but physical, has been $20 for a looooong time now man

I'm feeling pretty blah on EoH from what I've seen. I'll maybe just YT some of it some time for the fanservice.

I've played and loved CS 1 and 2, and plan to play 3 soon. Excellent series.

I'm taking it that that's a vote against everything there? I think some of these seem at least pretty good, especially for cheap.

For what it's worth, I think I'm leaning towards doing Persona and then one of FFXV/SO5/SO1, based on what I've seen here. I'm not positive just yet, but that's kind of what seems solid at the moment.

One more contender that I noticed: Chaos;Child. I believe it's in the same vein as Steins;Gate, which I absolutely loved, and it's cheap as well (also $9). If anyone has any experience with it, I'd consider that too.
