It's not that simple. A lot of people in NYC live in places that are considered illegal and landlords will just use intimidation tactics like getting a bunch of gang members to scare you to leave. I've seen it happen too much.

This is a very specific and uncommon issue for most people though. For virtually everyone else they can't be forced out so the landlord has those two options.

Its been one week, and yes they had issues initially and I know people who had issues but now got to enter their info so they are now scheduled to get their payments. But the initial way got a big chunk of money out ASAP so that's good for those people considering the alternatives.

Companies like Google and Microsoft can handle all this easily, but most of the country runs on antiquated systems AND methods. This applies to the state level too. In NY, they want you to talk to someone, just so you can get a fax number, to fax extra documents. While there is a portal available with an online messaging system. You can't reach anyone unless you make it your job to call all day.

NY has streamlined their process since then to make it so they call filers to complete it. But yes most states have very old systems that cannot handle this.

No, it's pretty common in many areas of NYC. Most of my friends in Brooklyn, Queens and The Bronx live illegally. We even have a user on here that lives illegally in Brooklyn.

They had issues but they still haven't been fixed and there's no real updates. Again, entering DD info for a social security number was figured out by big business decades ago.

Except, the call you get is just an automated call saying someone will call and since the streamline, it's basically people that were recently hired and can't handle anything outside basic stuff. Basically, talking to them opens other options on the portal. But, even those that have spoke to them have not had it open.

These people are stuck in limbo with no help. There's several Facebook and Uber groups where people are begging for advice because they're out of money.

Ok then show me a stat that it is so common that a stay on evictions helps only a small amount of renters. They exist, but not to the degree you're acting like.

Also someone on my block was in an illegal basement apartment and was brought to be evicted, and the judge ruled the apartment was illegal and the landlord was ordered to repay all rent to the tenant.

I think you took it wrong. I wasn't saying that's a majority or anything. I was saying there's lots of people in situations like that that can fall through the cracks so to speak. We still need to look out for everybody and not just people who get protection.

And as I said, these are minorities and immigrants without lawyers and shit. It will never make it to court because there will be like 10 dudes who will show up to help you forcefully move out.

It's about the vulnerable and whatnot falling through the cracks. It's just how life is in the hood.

I received an email from Social Security informing me that SSI recipients will be receiving their stimulus payment from the Treasury Department.

Treasury anticipates the stimulus payments will go out no later than early May.

I've entered a dozen different variations of my address on the site and it still refuses to go through.

Mind you, the limit per tries is 3 per day, so that's over a week of this nonsense. Guess expecting any sort of aspect of our government to work is too much to ask these days.

Finally got an update on mine. It now says my payment will be deposited on April 30th.

It will have taken nearly three weeks by then. So much for getting the money to people quickly. Im down to my emergency food supply right now and i'm going to be over $200 short on my rent, not to mention other bills that need paid.

I do have direct deposit. I filled it out the 17th after many got their first checks on the 15th. Since I had heard people who don't file taxes were SOL. But turned out there was a non filers page. The turnaround was pretty fast for me given how late I applied.

I'm my mother's representative payee and the website hasn't updated for her. I joined a FB group where I'm getting conflicting information constantly.

Do you have a direct express card? That's what she has and so far I've heard.

-It will be deposited onto her card before the end of the month.
-It will arrive by check before May 4th
-It will arrive by either check or direct deposit before the 15th

And yeah, I've heard conflicting accounts, too. Actually, about the only one I trust ATM is an email from Social Security that told me the Treasury department would be depositing my Stimulus into my account sometime around the beginning of May.

I'm on disability also. Still waiting on mine, lol. I am just assuming it'll be deposited on the 30th or the 1st, figured it will just be bundled with the regular benefits or whatever.

My friend's wife, who is also on disability, got hers yesterday morning at around like, 4 am eastern or so.

Oh dear god. My money is listed as pending on my bank account, which is fine. But a couple of microdeposits showed up and I don't recognize them. It's two deposits for $.76 and $.54 and a withdrawal for $1.30. No money actually left my bank and it was all made from something called "Kabbage".

I hope nothing bad happens cause I really need this money.

Did you apply for a SBA loan? Kabbage is a loan company.

The deposits are just to confirm your DD is correct, but I haven't heard of third parties doing it, neither for the stimulus. I've only heard state DOLs doing it for unemployment.
