Definitely my favorite Rock opera

I got to see it with Carl Anderson before he died

First time I saw it I had no concept of Christian stories so I was enthralled by how spectuclar Satan was.

I am sure it's good, but I have come across an unconscionably bad anti-Trump parody of the title song, and that's all I can think about now.

Heaven on their minds, the last supper, and damned for all time/blood money are my favorites in that order. I've always identified a lot with Judas. I might like heaven on their minds more overall all but the end of the last supper with Carl anderson and Ted neeley is a highlight of the show

That free The Phantom of the Opera on youtube a few days/weeks ago was awesome to watch. I like the female lead and like envisioning her soprano voice while choking on a junk.

I really like it, yeah.

Has the right level of funk -- the bassline during the 39 lashings is sublime! Then the ending with Judas and backup singers in full on white/silver is just so extra; I love it.

Humanizes both Judas and Pontius, which is something the standard Christian rhetoric seems to gloss over and/or demonize.

It really fucked with my 10 year old brain considering Judas in this light. Setting aside the humanity it gives him for a second, it really blew my head off hearing "what if I stayed here and ruined your ambition?" like shit that's a good point, actually Judas is just doing your dirty work that's nuts

I legitimately think it's helped shape my worldview

Yes it was awesome. The 2000 version wasn't that bad either, but the OG version is still the best. King Herod was hilarious, throwing bagels at Jesus.

John 19:41 might be the saddest song ever written. It always gets my eyes watery.
My favorite part is the high note 'whyyyyy' in Gethsemane. There's a youtube video that compiles everyone who plays Jesus hitting the high note and I think I liked Ian Gillan's the best.

His added age adds a level of rawness and also fragility that I really like. Not much has changed in the years since the above posted video (at least nog when I saw him a couple of years back).

I love the musical but I see people missing the point all the time. I never took it as a pro Jesus story. Rather that he was just man and if he was the son of god why would he choose this area or time period to come and show it. Also Judas has the best songs in the show.

I think it's written in a way that you can interpret and portray it however you like. Like I know the 2000 movie apparently paints Jesus as a bit more of a dick.

i guess my point is Ive seen too many people lately especially after last years Easter live version that it was very pro Jesus and treated like some religious experience. Also the one time Jesus should be the stereotypical blonde Rockstar he wasnt.
