I've noticed this at some restaurants where we get takeout. Prices have definitely gone up at some places.

Not really competition. Few will risk going to multiple stores to save a few.

But there is a price floor at which point the store would be losing money to push product. The lowest you're ever going to get is that price floor plus whatever overhead is required to run the store causing it to break even. The rare exception is when you have a mega-corporation that is intentionally taking a loss to push out smaller businesses who can afford a sustained loss as well.

As the cost of food itself goes up because of reduced production, food stores have no choice but to raise their prices as well. And keep in mind that a sustained run at only breaking even means that there is no hiring, no sales, no pay raises, no overtime, Etc.
