...yet watch a lot of porn. It's kind of fascinating, I had discussions with friends and some claimed that it was a stain on their reputation and that it was embarassing. When I told them they contributed to the demand, they just said "it's not the same, I am not in the videos". I feel like it's weird that society seems more offended by sex workers than actual violence.

Anyone has a way to make my friends understand their views make no sense?

Yeah people are fucking stupid, they want to watch porn but have no respect for sex workers just like they need groceries but dont want grocery store employees to make a living wage.

The problem is that everytime the minimum wage increase, the price of everything increase, so I feel like they should probably have price ceiling or something to prevent abuse from rich people after increasing minimum wage. That said, I wish the people who slut shame sex workers would live a year without porn just to see how they would react.

I wouldn't call that outrage. The majority viewpoint is probably that porn and sex work isn't decent work, shouldn't be respected, and is below the standards of acceptable employment that you'd want family and loved ones to be in. But hey, if you want to do that, go ahead... just don't expect people to care about your opinion because you're famous over getting a dick in you.

I'm not suggesting that people should go out of their way to insult prostitutes or porno stars or that any kind of abuse directed at them is remotely okay, but I'd hardly call it hypocritical to beat off to it while not thinking highly of it.

I have four kids, if any of them end up in sex work than I'd view myself as having failed them as a parent.

Per my post, no. Abuse or insulting people for that is not okay. But, as you said, if you think it's okay to not want your kids to go into that industry, isn't that inherently an admission that it's okay to think less of the occupation from an individual standpoint?

The main reason I would not want is concern about their safety or risk of not finding a job due to the fact some people are outraged by it

Plenty of pornstar wrote stories about them getting harassed by random strangers or being coerced into doing things they did not want to do. Not to mention some people will try to prevent them from having a job due to their past(depending on where they work as some places could have them go unnoticed)

I am well aware that it's more of a matter of pride for most people, but I think my hypothetical children's well being is more important than my pride. Let's hypothetically assume your hypothetical 18 years old daughter did that. How would you deal with the situation?

I have seen people throwing tantrums at fast food workers and when I was a student, their is people who insulted me for doing a "lesser" job. It's not necessarily hate, but some people think of them as "lesser" people. Not sure if I am clear. I consider my year as a fast food worker one of the worst year in my life tbh. I also have seen people saying they deserve less than what they are already paid.

A lot of people are assholes who just see everyone else as background characters in a movie where they are the main character. They don't see sex workers, fast food workers, etc., as people on the same level as them and thus they're not deserving of respect.

I have a friend like this. Consumes tons, and I mean, TONS of porn, but screeches about sex workers being whores and other misogynistic nonsense.

The stigma against sex work is extreme, for sure. But that also most definitely applies to porn stars.

Thats interesting. Ive still only heard people talk down about the job itself, like it doesnt take skill, its dead end, or an entry level thing that you should only use before you get a real job. This doesnt count the people who hate the workers who were rude to them or something of course lol.

Oh yeah, and I hated my fast food job too. Although that wasnt because people looked down on me. More because the customers were just stupid and the managers would always take their side. Like if they insisted that they ordered something when they didnt, the manager would often give it to them for free just to keep things moving. Something about that rubbed me the wrong way.

What I'm saying is that if you say "I get why people don't want this", you're validating their reasons, not your own.

Also idk what I would do if it were my hypothetical 18 year old daughter. I don't really think my child's gender matters. I'd probably be disappointed because I feel like I would try to raise my children to value things above monetary value, but that also would have me equally disappointed in them if they wanted to be a hedge fund manager or something.

I explained why I would not want it, but I would not want them to look at porn and treat sex workers like shit either. And I said daughter because it's the first thing that came to mind. It could have been your son.
