Has anyone else heard it yet lol

The fact that Pitchfork gave it the first 10/10 since MBDTF (my favorite album ever) caught my attention

I did and it's pretty good but idk if I'd call it an instant masterpiece or anything

Okay looked up the album on Spotify and the first song just sounded way too background noise-ish. Its singer-songwriter folk type music, I really have to be in the mood for that sort of thing.

Sounds like you were waiting for this for a while too. Does she have a reputation for critically acclaimed work or is this supposed to be her magnum opus?

This is only her 5th album in 24 years and everything she's done is amazing. When the Pawn and The Idler Wheel are also 10/10 albums

SuperExciteBike pretty much nailed it. Her previous albums are great in addition to being critically praised. It's more of a event in which listeners have seen her continue to develop from album to album while being brutally upfront about her relationships and self abuse / addiction in her lyrics. This album is chocked full of that from what I've listened to. That also sells it short as the composition and layering of instruments with the changing tempos adds to the fury.

Many songs on this album seem better as poetry/spoken word than actual songs, maybe some of them are actually poetry/spoken word and its going past my head in a major way

IWYTLM, Heavy Balloon, and Shameika are the instant likes for me after 2 listens

Maybe its simply all too artsy-fartsy for me at the moment to absorb, but Ill check out her older stuff while I marinade on this

Some feel more like anthems that I could see many listeners take to, especially those in crappy relationships or are trying to get over one. The writing in the lyrics is the standout while the music is harder to pick up on. It's there, and some of it is really clever, but it may not jump out.

It's too early for me to think of where I'd rank it. I would definitely have to give it more time.

All of her work has been critically acclaimed. She's built up a great deal of respect as a result.

She really takes her time with music. 5 albums since 1996. It's a huge deal when a new Fiona Apple LP drops

I've listened to a few songs so far (I Want you to Love Me, Shameika, For Her, and On I Go), and idk if this album is for me.

maybe I have to be in a certain mood to enjoy it more; I dunno.
