On episode 5. What the hell. Korra actually let her dad stand trial and go jail. Even after learning that her uncle is a liar, she hasn't learned anything. She's still just incredibly rash and hot headed all the time.

Question. Korra's dad is the chief of the southern water tribe? And her uncle is the chief of the North? In the first episode of season 1, they kind of gave the impression that Korra came from hillbillyish parents, the equivalent of a family out in the boonies. For her to be this well connected kind of surprised me. I thought they were going for a theme of "the Avatar can come from anywhere" not just the daughter of a chieftain.

Can't believe that her dad's brother is this evil dude who framed his own brother and is trying to seize control. Like, why.

I feel like there's more to this whole spirit thing. At first I was suspecting that it was a trick by the dude to get Korra on his side, and I'm gonna see how it plays out.

Actually I don't mind how we got here, that spirits episode about the first avatar is probably my favorite of this series so far. It was really good.

Reading this topic, I realize how much of Season 2 I actually totally forgot. I've basically memorized the others, but season 2 is like a big fuzzy black hole in my memory. Except for

that spirits episode about the first avatar

Which was awesome.

I wish the show runners weren't totally fucked over by Nick at every turn.

Imagine if it was Netflix just letting them do whatever they wanted... how good could it have been?

I thought the point there was that it was the opposite of her being rash and hot headed. Even if it's her dad, she shouldn't be using her position as the Avatar to influence legitimate government workings.

Though maybe I'm just thinking of a different situation and/or misunderstanding you.

It starts off really good imo, it just falls apart and ends up destroying the few good aspects of the season. At the start it seem like it is to be a good civil war arc with no real good or bad guys, but by the end it's a plenty good vs evil battle. Which seems to go against most previous seasons whole spirits aren't necessarily good or evil, they have total different views on morality then humans.

Oh, I saw your other topic. I'll just respond here to this bit:

I felt it was kind of a downer and the happy ending of Korra wasn't earned. I thought that they were going to do a lesson about how she needs to get in touch with the spiritual side of the Avatar and that's how she restores her powers. Like she learns to be patient and more in tune with harmony or whatever (since her biggest flaw has been her impetuous personality and rashness) and then she finally awakens the Avatar state and gets in touch with Aang/the rest and gets her powers back.

Korra did do something to get in touch with the spiritual world. She learned there was no way to restore her powers, leaving the world without an Avatar. She ventures out alone, rejecting any offers of company. She goes close enough to a cliff edge that her tears fall into the ocean when she cries. It's not overt because it's Nickelodeon, but it's pretty heavily implied she was going to kill herself to transition to the next Avatar.

I mean, depends on how you feel about Season 1, which was the closest we got to that. It was supposed to be a one-off, but the massive popularity pushed Nick to quickly order another 3 seasons, 2 of which were still pretty good.

They were also told a certain number of episodes, which were changed. Nick also tried to pull them back from aging the series with its demographic, and then randomly tossed episodes online rather than on television for some bullshit reason.

Yeah, I remember, but how much did lousy marketing affect the end product?

In some optimistic news, the live action Netflix adaptation of The Last Airbender is still underway.

Damn. I don't know if I like that interpretation, suicide stuff always makes me uncomfortable. And even pragmatically, there was no way of knowing that the Avatar cycle would continue with her death if the bending connection was severed.

Overall a pretty dark beginning to the series.

I guess you couldn't really prove that it would transition, but the fact that Amon had zero spiritual ability makes it a pretty safe assumption.

Anyway I don't see what's so bad about s2, I'm liking this season so far and find the spirit stuff interesting for lore and world building. More so than the 1930s city setting of season 1 which I just couldn't get behind.

Although what the hell at library owl helping the evil uncle. If he hates humans, that guy's easily one of the worst humans. Unless he was promised that releasing vaatu would ensure all humans die and the owl was glad to hear that. Still haven't heard unalaq's motivation yet. If vaatu is released he won't even have a world to rule wtf.

Unalaq spent a lot of time endearing himself to the spirits.

Wan Shi Tong also has cause to dislike the Avatar specifically.
