I like how the first paragraph tries to say that it's in a business's best interest to provide a safe environment for their workers/customers, when we've seen plenty of examples indicating that isn't true if a business thinks they can save money by not doing so.

The first paragraph. I mean, let's say bars and restaurants. Even before the official stay at home orders from various cities and states, weren't they seeing big drops in customers? You could have them reopen, but it's not as if that means everyone is going to be crowding the mall and things will be fully back. I guess it depends on how much he thinks things will ramp back up.

But this person kinda acts as if governmental authority is the only reason people are staying in.

Ehh, I don't know. To be honest, I don't need them to have my best interest at heart for altruistic reasons. And I don't expect them or many others to.

I need them to want to have my best interest at heart for any reason that motivates them, such as money, PR, etc.

My thoughts:

This is a complicated issue with no easy answers and the louder people scream the more you know that they don't have an educated idea to fix the problem but a selfish or desperate desire that could worsen the problem.

What we need is the best minds on both sides of the issue coming together to make a plan. Instead we have politics. Instead we have a president talking about social distancing policies in public and then tweeting for states to be liberated in private. Instead we have a contest of who has the bigger dick all the while people are dying or desperate for money and nothing for anyone is improving.

Right, but as a business what's the incentive for you to protect your customers from infection rather than spend less money just looking like you're protecting them from infection.

I guess the same as during any other time with any institution, as much transparency as possible and enough knowledgeable people that can judge if those actions are good enough or not.

I know lots of people that have families, mortgages, businesses, that are making reasonable statement. This post brings in a lot of conjecture/conspiracy theory/hyperbole etc

What does he think will happen if you half ass opening up the country? It's like when you take antibiotics, you start feeling better so you don't finish the rest of your doses and then the bacteria comes back stronger. I don't feel bad for non-essential business owners who are putting priorities of their business before everyone else. So many of the profits that guy talked about people losing are because we have set up systems where hospitals and large farmers are allowed to reap megaprofits. Now that the system is not giving those privileges anymore we're supposed to care that they have to dump product? Besides that our food supply chain is gonna be a lot worse if everyone is dead. It's using fear-mongering as an argument for their own personal gain. Plus he has no sources for his claims.
