I managed to finish my BA in Political Science in 2017 and I will be done with my MS in Political Science in June, but it's like...

I'm not saying I don't care anymore, but I was way more into this when I was younger. In high school I would read tons of books by economics, historians, politicians, etc. By the end of high school I had a huge collection of books, left wing and right wing in my room. I loved Noam Chomsky and had read a bunch of his books by the end of the 12th grade.

Early on in college I was super deep in the radical political activist scene, going to protests, being in student groups, etc.

Then like by my second year of college I lost all interest in going to protests. I finished my degree because it's what I am good at and decided to get a Masters so I can actually get a real job.

But I REALLY don't actually read books like this anymore, last protest I went to was a BLM protest in 2015. That was literally 5 years ago.

I want to get more into philosophy, it seems more interesting and actually have some real value. That being said job wise I am probably going to just work for a city or the state because it pays well and nice benefits.

Though I can't relate, it sounds like you'll be fine. I doubt whatever job you pick up will require you be well versed with Noam Chomsky anyways, right?

What kind of city or state jobs could you land with that kind of degree?

The ceiling will probably be a Public Administration type of job, I got an A in my public administration class in my masters program. At this point I'm still looking at my job options but I am sure I could get a state job of some kind.

The thing is I have lived a very meaningful and fulfilling life otherwise and I honestly wouldn't mind some bureaucratic job where I sit at a desk all day. I like being bored lmao

PolSci and Lit, graduated in the 90s. But that degree eventually pass-ported me to an MSc in Social Work, then further postgrad/clincal skills in 1:1 therapy.

You'll be fine.

2017 seems like yesterday to me, tbh..

I definitely read less extracurricular stuff now than I did in college but a big part of that is because of how much I read and work with policy with daily for my profession

That could also explain some of you problem, too. Are you sure you're reading less or is your graduate program just making you do all the reading and research you want to do? That was the case for me so I knew a PhD wasn't a good choice for me

I wish I could be teaching literature, I'm still down. Unfortunately shithole America decided that academia isn't worth maintaining over giving even more money to billionaires. I fucking hate this country.

That's how I already feel finishing my freshmen year of undergrad. The culture around business disgusts me. My mom never understands when I try to explain it to her. "Well it's normal to have a class or two you really don't care for." I dont like fucking any of them, damnit.

But I don't know what else to do. I wanna cry

I can't concentrate on any of the work I thought I WAS passionate about like creative writing. I might have ADD or something. I wanna talk to campus counseling but there's a quarantine.

^What a crock of BS. Academia gets more of people's money than ever before. The cost of college is wildly out of control.
No, it isn't. The cost has gone up with inflation, just like everything else except the money 99% of Americans make. That has been stagnant for many decades.

It's gone up more than inflation, but the cost is going to administrators not teachers.

That has very little to do with funding academia.
