Hey everyone! The Contest Analysis Crew is back at it again, and this time, were going to write a lot of words about the second Game of the Decade Contest.

If youre new here, the Contest Analysis Crew has been running strong since 2004. Its a group of (self-proclaimed) contest experts that take a deep look at all of the matches in the Contest. We make predictions on who we think will win and how much percentage theyll receive. Its a lot of fun and I hope you enjoy the ride!

Kleenex: Alright let me see here...These supplies look to be in rough shape.

Moltar: Dude it was hell trying to get here. So many TROLLS in the area.

Kleenex: Ah yes, you came here from Square Knot City right? There are known to be many TROLLS wandering between these two regions.

Moltar: Tell me about it.

Kleenex: You really are brave to make the trip here. These goods are still very usable, thank you so much for bringing them here.

Moltar: I assume a thanks is all Im going to get, so can you at least do me a favor and connect to the network.

Kleenex: Hmmm.I guess it wouldnt hurt. I mean we dont want to be lagging behind Square Knot City.

Moltar: Feels like you two cities are competing for some reason.

Kleenex: Well theres more of us here! And were better than them, so we need more supplies!

Moltar: Yeah take that issue up with someone who cares.



Allen: And with that, Nintendo Knot City is connected to the network. Well done, now most of GameFAQs has been reconnected.

Moltar: Alright boss now tell me how to finish this little quest.

Allen: Your last delivery will be to Indie Knot City. Its a small place in an obscure place, but it is still a very much vital location.

Kleenex: Going to Indie Knot City? Oh man and you thought getting here was rough.

Moltar: Of course things would get even more difficult.

Kleenex: Dude Ive heard some bad rumors out there. Stuff even worse than TROLLS. People that tried to travel there get caught up in and swallowed by BTs.

Moltar: What the hell is a BT?

Kleenex: I mean...Ive never seen one here in Nintendo Knot City, so I cant tell you exactly what it is. Ive just heard scary stuff about them.

Allen: Dont let those rumors stop you from completing your mission. Ive sent the packages to you, now go and deliver them to transience at Indie Knot City as soon as possible. Remember, you are GameFAQs last hope. We are counting on you.

Moltar: I have a bad feeling about this...

Oh Sonic Mania can still win (I wish Meat Boy had did a bit better against Slay the Spire) but the writeups for it exude a lack of confidence. I've seen the "well Entrant A did way worse than I expected it to, but it totally still has the juice, it wins with 51%" song and dance many times before!

I only abandon my bracket when I know for a fact its hosed on a match (like with FE:A/Bloodborne earlier). Like Leon said I wouldn't be confident about picking either game here (and trust me I definitely considered SMB even in the middle of writing it).

Funny enough after seeing the other write-ups I feel better about Sonic Mania now but we'll see!

the crew would have all flipped if SMB had put up better than 69% on a low to bottom tier indie game.

I just wonder if Meat Boy will be any better than VVVVVV, Bastion, or Binding of Isaac.

Of course, I could see Sonic Mania losing to something like Bastion, too, though!

Animal Crossing is huge right now. My wife normally couldn't care less about video game websites, and yet she is reading the GameFAQs animal crossing message boards.

Will these new animal crossing fans actually vote in the poll of the day? Probably not, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if they did and it pulled off the upset.

Maybe if it was a close match before New Horizons.

I'll swallow my pride if I have to, but I don't think there's any way New Leaf pulls it off.

Anyway, I dont see GameFAQs liking something as sequel heavy and mainstream as AC, especially with Royal coming out recently, so I expect something like a tripling.

Civ 5 barely being worth 20% on Persona 5 less than five years after it almost avoided a doubling from Dark Souls strains the bounds of credibility. It's possible, even likely that Civ 5 has dropped off since 2015, and maybe it will also look worse than it should because of ACIV bracket/apathy votes disappearing in this match. Still, I can't see it falling to this extent.

SMB looked better against Slay the Spire than Mania did against a jRPG title whose series I would have never have even heard of had it not been for this board. I have at least seen Slay the Spire mentioned/played elsewhere on the web.

Ok, but this is JRPGFAQs we're talking about. Sure, Slay the Spire is easily the more notable piece of fodder in the Western gaming community as a whole, but I'd take it to be exactly the other way around here on GameFAQs. In fact, I would not be surprised if Ys VIII approached the doubling on Slay the Spire, just as the weaker weeb-oriented Danganrompa 2 would on the weaker indie turbofodder Inside through RE2/Doom extrapolation. Combine that with the apathy votes likely to come Sonic's way in a match between two retro platformers, only one of which has a relevant brand name, and I'm actually confident in Sonic getting the job done here.

Also, anyone who thinks the Castlevania Netflix series significantly boosted Alucard and Simon's strength last contest really should be taking Sonic in this match.

I feel like the AC/RDR2 match is a trap.

The more I look at it the more underwhelming 66.5% on SFV seem, especially given how terrible MK11 and Tekken 7 both looked first round. Now, I don't know about fighting games, but I know SFV is one of the hated fighting games ever, so I really can't see RDR2 dropping the ball here and letting it get close. Or else it's in a world of pain next round.

The original vanguard of indie games like VVVVVV, Super Meat Boy, Binding of Isaac, and Bastion (even though it got a win) have more or less proven themselves to be worthless. GameFAQs has no nostalgia for that era.

How is Ys so legit though? Trails looked terrible to the point where Bastion of all things can double it, but I guess there's a TON of SFF in that DQ match.

now that we've seen two rounds of most of our indie games, I guess we can tier them properly, huh? maybe we need games like ff15 and three houses to show us what they're worth before doing that though.

For me, it's because I've never heard of Ys and I've heard of Trails and other really obscure JRPG series like Lunar and Shining, so I assumed it must be weak. Did Ys blow up with 8 or was it always this level? Like I'm legitimately shocked by this result. There's probably some SFF here, but idk how many people would take Ys > Super Meat Boy pre contest.

Makes me think that FFXV, SMG2 and Shovel Knight are going to get butchered even worse than expected next round, resulting in Shovel Knight, Undertale, Hollow Knight, Stardew Valley and Super Meat Boy all looking depressingly weak. Bleh.

I'm really not sure what to make of the GTA5/P4 matchup, and these indies bombing left and right don't make me feel like that 60% on Cuphead is super great? I don't know. that matchup fascinates me.

RDR over GTA is a long standing take of mine that probably needs revising. I guess we'll find out in a week though!
