And oh my god it was terrible, horrible, boring, tiring and in general one of the worst cases in the series

-What was up with the detective coughing up blood? it was never explained. Just a red herring? maybe he is the Gumshoe of the game and will show up later and will be explained, but so far..meh

-YOU HAVE THREE WITNESSES LYING. Normally the witnesses are just confused. Or just one is lying. But making all the witnesses of the case turn out be lying? what the hell? if you can't true any of the witnesses for anything, those games would get nowhere
This never happened before in the series. Yes, there were some "the prosecutor told me not to talk about it!" but it was never to this extent

-Letting one person that was on the crime scene to leave without even body searching her or calling her as a witness? come on, really? don't excuse this with your "politics" bullshit I don't want to hear this

-There was a part that your mentor is having a mental breakdown for no reason and this is the most "out of character" for a Ace Attorney character...ever. There was no reason for a breakdown. Especially not for someone that was acting all cool and mighty up until now. Even Athena didn't break so easily

-"The Victim was already dead when he got burned! he must have died in other way!" how did you come to this conclusion?? what if after he died from the gunshot he got burned?? and then his hand fall?

-He died by poison? no from a gun shot? oh my god fuck off. What is this bullshit seriously? and don't give me this "in the west they are doing autopsy. Here we are doing post-mortem" excuse. I don't want to hear it. Previous Ace Attorney games autopsy records NEVER LIED. They might have hidden some facts but they never lied

-Poison unknown to Japan? uhhhh? I admit I am not an expert but was it really impossible to compare two water bottles and notice that one has different things in it and assume it's a poison? how long ago are we talking about that technology sucked so much?

-Also, couldn't they check for ballistic markings and see that the bullet was fired from another gun? oh yeah we are talking about 3000 years ago........

-The case is saved by a unrelated, random 3rd party that is giving you a trump card. People complain about Mia giving you the winning ticket for 1-2, but here it's worse. She just downright gave you "the murderer was researching poison" out of the blue

-"I remember blood on the plate" NOW you remember this? and since when is a memory a good way to move the plot forward?? especially when you just "remember" it when the case is about to be over?

-"I switched the plates" this was done just to make the case more complicated than it needs to be. They just made it long for no reason, this was as tiring as AAI-5

-The murderer motive wasn't explained. It was never even asked about. At the end, Naruhodo was thinking about it, but just for one line of text. I assume it will be explained later..but still, dumb

-How does having blood on the plate even confirms the killer identity? I am confused.

Most of my complaints comes from the fact this is "old Japan" and technology is not advanced yet so we the information we get is more flawed than usual
It might be a nice gimmick...but I can't accept that. It feels like they are lying to the player in the face and making those cases more complicated by cheap tactics
If you can't trust the witnesses and you can't trust the evidence, what is even the point?

Like imagine if they told you Cindy Stone died from head trauma and the murder weapon was The Thinker, but it wasn't really a autopsy, just some detective saw the crime scene and assumed so but for you it's a "fact"
Then turns out she died because she drank poisoned water (from a bottle Larry gave her) a few moments before but the police couldn't find it because it was a poison that America didn't know about
It's fucking dumb

This picture sums about my thoughts on this case perfectly-

Can someone please explain to me how the killer even carried it out in the first case? I still don't understand
If he was shot from the front, why was he with the back to the table? I mean when she shot him everyone already looked to the table, she couldn't get him and turn him over

Finished the second case

It was much better written than the first case
And no Leon I don't want to hate this game. It's been years since the last AA game and no game in sight, so believe me I want to enjoy this one because who knows when I will be able to play another one (I have no clue what is the progress on DGS2 translation)

Anyway, SPOILERS FOR SECOND CASE-

-I am glad that it turned out to be a murder and not a cat accident because that would be dumb. But after the first case I wasn't sure that they wouldn't disappoint..well, they didn't, so good!

-I have been thinking of a lot of contradictions during the case but at least in this one they solved and answered all of them. I have been thinking about why she was so scared of the captain knowing about her if he is on her side? but they answered that

-The last bit of trying to explain to her that the victim just wanted to help was kind of emotional, pretty well done imo

-Not being able to find the other piece of the bell because it was too dark? come on, they had plenty of time to tamper with the scene, and it was in plain sight! (you can argue that it was elsewhere but the ship tilting made it roll to the middle of the room I guess)

Overall, kind of boring case but wasn't bad, they had tons of hints about what happened all during the case, no lame red herrings
Holmes is ok too I guess
Hope the game will get better, but at least it shows it has potential now

Nobody cares lmao

Third case-
Again, kinda boring, but the twist at the end was worth it
I also liked the fact that for once we have a defendant that isn't a idiot and actually could defend himself for once
Well, he is probably not really a "defendant" and more likely the guilty party, but still! it was different enough from Engarde
It does pain me how simple the murder was though...either he was stabbed in the roof and dropped to the floor or actually stabbed down by the "defendant" and there is nothing special about that, so the "twist" is the only thing going for the case

Naruhodo is fine, he isn't Phoenix or Apollo but he is more similar to Apollo imo
Kind of lacking self esteem but that's expected for a rookie

Susato is pretty great, not really Maya but she is almost as charming/cute I guess
I feel like she get less screen time that she deserves

Holmes was only in one case so far but he was entertaining

Case 4 is bad writing again

Do we really need to cross examine that juries to figure out that they opened the window because of the smoke? that was so obvious for anyone with half a brain
Do we really need to explain that the victim crouched to pick up the book and because of that she was stabbed in the back?

Gotta love how many unanswered questions there are going into case 5

-What was the motive of the killer from case 1?

-What was your best friend wish? (probably to fix the judicial system of Britain/Japan and make it more like the judical system that we know now in AA games, just to tie in the past to the present)

-Why the detective from case 1 and 2 is coughing blood? (won't be answered imo, just a character gimmick)

-Who killed the victim of case 3? (probably your defendant...but then it raise the question - was the pickpocketer part of the scheme? if so she should be prosecuted for assisting a murder...)

-Who killed the defendant of case 3?

-Who were those 2 random characters in case 4 that appeared for a brief moment?

-Why did the Grim Reaper took the 4th case? why did he return?

-What is all this buildup for the "the dark side of London". I mean, the last buildup was for the "DARK AGE OF THE LAW!!" and it sucked

So many questions and all of them are supposed to be answered in the final case...? probably not
I came into this game spoiler-free but I have only one vague spoiler - that the game ends on a cliff-hanger/unfinished
So I assume some of those questions will be answered in the next game...

Let's make a game that it's gimmick being set in the past and no bullet analysis, no valid autopsy, no fingerprint testing available yet...but then shove down a chemical that change the color of the blood depending on the person
They clearly had no idea where they were going with this game

What was the motive of the killer from case 1?
Not answered. But hinted to be in the sequel

-What was your best friend wish?
Not answered. But looks like it's not relevant anymore

-Why the detective from case 1 and 2 is coughing blood?
Not answered. Probably never will be, because it's just a character gimmick (not sure what so gimmicky about this, maybe some japanese joke or whatever)

-Who killed the victim of case 3?
Answered

-Who killed the defendant of case 3?
Answered

-Who were those 2 random characters in case 4 that appeared for a brief moment?
Not answered and probably never will be. Maybe they were part of some "create a character" contest or some shit and were just a cameo

-Why did the Grim Reaper took the 4th case? why did he return?
Hinted to be answered in the sequel

-What is all this buildup for the "the dark side of London"
Yeah it was nothing allright. You would think someone crooked was the mastermind. But actually, considering the telegraph, maybe there is still hope for this (maybe Chief Justice? I dunno. He looks like a villain)

Anyway nobody cares and nobody reads this topic so I won't post full review

Just say that the game was mediocre and not up to Ace Attorney standard. I think it's better than Apollo Justice, but below all the rest
It has some great moments though, but even them could have been done better

Looking forward for the sequel, nonetheless

I'd put DGS1 over AJ, AAI1, and maybe Layton/PW. Case 3 was legit great. The others were a mixed bag. Susato is amazing and Holmes was great. Naruhodou acts more like Apollo than Phoenix though.

Well, Takumi originally planned for DGS to be a trilogy, so he left a lot of stuff unanswered as a setup for the sequels.

Unfortunately, the first game was a flop even by AA standards, so he had to cram it all into the sequel.

I have more respect for case 3 now that I know the whole picture
It wasn't something that was done before in the series. It was different from Engarde, because here you actually got the not guilty verdict (and didn't do it as a trick)
The arson at the end was also great
Still feel like if the murder method was a little more complicated it would have been a better case, but knowing what conspiracy there was and how the defendant tricked you..makes the case better when looking back on it

Does the sequel at least answer everything? or there are more unanswered questions for a third game that never happened?
