When Zack appears to have survived, he gets knocked down by the blast of what you think is an explosion, but we see it's light that's enveloping Midgar (and maybe some whisps of Whispers) and when it fades away we see Midgar, at 10:46 (I've taken a crappy screenshot below)

Beat Bahamut by building enough Limits to pressure him enough times to stagger him before megaflare. Not sure that's intended because the only reason I got so many limits was by eating so much damage and healing through it with magnify+curaga.

Just finished chapter 11 and 12.

train graveyard was definitely drawn out, but I enjoyed the boss fights. Tifa still my favourite to battle with, but Ive done a lot better at switching it up often.

The plate drop chapter is pretty sweet. As is the fight against Reno and Rude (towards the end). Finally feel like Im getting the battle system fully down. Though Ive had magnify attached to an offensive materia, and I should probably attach it to cure lol.

I spent the entire time thinking that magnify increased the range on spells or something. I didn't realize that it's basically this game's version of All materia. I get why they couldn't call it All if it's more of an AOE but still.

Man I had my Magnify materia on Time for the group Haste but I never even thought to put it on Barrier which seems most legit. wtb more Magnify

At least they have a super obvious upgrade path for later games with giving you more of the modifier materia and enough MP to actually cast the highest tier spells

I did not one ever consider putting buff or healing Materia on magnify. Never crossed my mind. God, now I actually wanna do new game plus.

I'm replaying chapter 9 for some trophies I missed and any materia you picked up is gone and the prizes in the gym are already claimed.

Well there's no way to actually get platinum by one playtrough and not only because you need to complete it on hard mode.

temporarily go into hard mode chapter 14 and go straight to the coliseum

Equip the Mythril Saber with Firaga+Elemental and ATB Stagger materia and do the Three Person Team vs. Shinra Warriors fight and spam Firaga to quickly level up to 50 and max out a ton of materia in under an hour.

Oh, so the Chapter 17 battle sims are Hard only. Guess I'll start Hard mode playthrough then. Already got all dresses and Chapter 14 resolutions so no need to plan around that.

after I have no idea how many tries, I finally beat Bahamut/Ifrit

The battle after it was so much easier.

its definitely laid out and thought out throughout the game.
that doesn't make it a good idea or satisfying for someone expecting a faithful remake of the game

That was something

I'll say this: that definitely felt like a full game and a complete experience, even though there was some obvious padding. It felt like the first part of a series of games rather than the opening act of a single game, if that makes any sense.

I mean without the changes and the balls-to-the-wall excellent Sephiroth fight the final boss would have been uh. That big six-wheeled thing that chases you on the freeway.

I really enjoyed it.

I will say as someone who knew about the central conceit of the spoilers going into it, the ghosts were still obtrusive and obnoxious every time they showed up throughtout the normal sections. And maybe that's the point but stuff like the ghosts attacking sector 7 or swarming the church end up being the lamest parts of the game (church is obviously saved by Reno and Aerith, ghosts can't ruin that). If anything it could have used LESS foreshadowing because most of it isn't good.

Yeah I think the game could have used maybe 1 or 2 less ghost appearances and 1 or 2 more fleshed out Sephiroth hallucinations. There's a big hallucination in Chapter 2 where he actually talks to Cloud but all of the other times he's just there for a flash.

I could understand not wanting to ruin the mystique but they had an entire scene with him and Cloud like an hour into the game so I don't know.

So tried the Top Secrets match and is there a semi reliable way to actually interrupt megaflare or is it better to build towards outright tanking it? That is what fucked me. Ifrit is no concern at least from where I got to in the fight

Cast it when he is at 1.

Otherwise skills like Reprieve or the Reraise Earrings.

Elemental + Fire on your armor makes Ifrit heal you

Yeah I did manawall and it wasn't enough to survive. Also had elemental fire which is why Ifrit was a non factor. I could only seem to get his pressure to like 70% or so and that was with doing a double limit break on his face. Revive earrings could be useful though. Might try going through a bit of hard mode to get some manuscripts before giving it another go though.

I haven't tried it but Arcane Ward and double Aga is supposed to help with stagger for Megaflare

Was gonna ask for the best team for that. I was thinking Cloud, Barret and Aerith.

Someone on the ff7r board posted this video where they go in depth about all of the hints and stuff they leave for the future direction of the plot. It's 2.5 hours so warning on that front, have something else to do while this is playing but I will say as someone who was very disappointed with my experience with the ending it made me feel a lot more hopeful about the directions they could go so I'd recommend watching it if you feel like you could be in that group

Just beat it

Man what a ride those last few hours

Honestly the boss rush of the last few hours kinda got a bit tiring

The fucking annoying things in Hojo's lab (the stupid whack a mole thing), then Jenova, Rufus, Arsenal, bike, Whispers, Sephiroth all in a row was...you know, a lot.

It was getting to be a little too intense and think it could have used a little breather personally

I mostly liked them individually but there was a cumulative exhaustion

For pullups the trick is you can't fall down or you'll lose, so don't even worry about going fast, just worry about not messing up your buttons. After ten or so in a row you can pick up your pace.
