I beat it on Hurt Me Plenty. There was a lot of save scumming involved, because holy fuck.

I've said this before, but Doom 1 played a bit like a survival horror at times. The focus was always on the action, but you had these mazes where you would have to tread carefully around every corner, or where you'd go to pick up an item and get swarmed by enemies. The game uses horror movie lighting, and those instances where you're swarmed by a fuckload of enemies honestly felt kinda like jump scares. It's clearly a bloody action game, but to stay alive, sometimes you have to creep around and avoid large enemy traps.

Doom 2 is mainly comprised of open arenas. There's a lot more verticality, and way more enemies being thrown at you at every second of your playthrough. You can finish Doom 1 by playing slowly and methodically, but if you want to survive in Doom 2, you need to sprint, circle-strafe and bait enemies in pretty much every level of the game. In Doom 1, I didn't even know there was a sprint button - I beat the entire game without using it. In Doom 2, not only do you need to use it in the opening levels, you need it to avoid certain death from 12+ enemies with ranged weapons firing at you at once.

I just beat Icon of Sin legit. There's no noclip cheat on the Switch version, but I didn't even pick out God Mode to defeat it. I did access the cheat menu for the first time, because the Icon of Sin is a lame boss and I wanted to pump rockets into John Romero's face, but since I couldn't clip through the brainmeat, I played the game legit.

Next up is Doom 3, with an 8.8gb download. I'm gonna have to get rid of some stuff off my Switch.

Still read over half of my post, lol

man, the first three Doom games were a combined $9 on sale a while ago. Don't judge - the last time I made any significant progress through the original Doom was with the GBA version. The Switch version is objectively better than that.

You can get to John Romero's face with an Arch-vile blast IIRC

I played Doom and Doom 2 a freaking ton as a kid, but going back through them now (also on the Switch) I'm starting to realize I don't think I ever beat them legit. I've never been big on cheat codes, but I used them a ton on those games back then. I know I cheated on the Icon of Sin because finding Romeros head by accident scared the hell out of me.

I'm on Episode 4 of Doom now and I'm not sure if I'll do any add ons right after or wait a little bit, because yea its a draining game. Still one of the best of all time though

I remember playing through 1 and 2 on UV on the PS3 a while back, they were far easier than I remember. Maybe because of the 100x superior control scheme over using just the keyboard. >_>
