You do not know what the twist is, just that there is a twist in the story.

Do you consider yourself now spoiled?

Does it ruin/dilute the experience?

Just curious on how other people feel about this.

Depends on the game.

Like most RPGs or Visual Novels it's safe to assume there's a big plot twist anyway, so knowing it's coming eventually adds to the experience.

Now if that plot twist is related to the gameplay or the overall atmosphere of said game then yes I would say it dilutes the experience for me.

Yeah Tangy pretty much summed it up

Dilutes a little, but wouldn't say it ruins it. The exception being if it's already something I assume is going to have a twist, then it's whatever

Yes, I do. If someone is like "There's a HUGE twist coming" suddenly that's all your brain can focus on, and you pay painstaking attention to everything in order to try and predict it. I'd rather know nothing at all and just absorb the game/movie/show as it is.

Don't really care. How a twist is executed matters more than if it's there or not.

I mean I'd still prefer not to know. On the other hand there's probably things I would never tried if I wasn't "spoiled" by something in it that was very cool.

At least somewhat.

My overactive brain will be constantly trying to guess what it is

If the timing of the twist is vague then its usually okay, because I generally expect everything to have a twist. If I dont have an idea at when its coming then I usually dont consider myself spoiled.

In general I'm of the opinion that if knowing the twist ahead of time (even knowing exactly what the twist is) lessens the experience then it wasn't a very good twist in the first place.

This doesn't apply to stories that are explicitly designed as mysteries, but on the other hand you already know there's going to be a twist in a mystery by virtue of the genre, so I'm not sure that has any effect on the answer to your question.

Same here. So if it's something I'm already playing/reading, I don't want to be told there's a twist. But if it's something where I look at the description and I'm not interested, then I'm fine being enticed in with "actually, there's a twist."

It usually simply depends on how predictable it is. like shutter islands entire marketing was basically theres a twist and for me it was very easy to figure out. But in something like bioshock I knew there was a twist but was completely floored when I found out what it was.

Diluted, yes. Not ruined, but the experience isn't quite the same.

It's kinda annoying because I like when there's a well-crafted twist, but it's kind of impossible for me to seek that out because of this.

If a story is ruined because it hinges solely on a twist, then the fundamentals of storytelling involved probably weren't that great to begin with.

I feel like even reviews describe certain stories as being "full of twists" or "unpredictable" and at this point, I basically expect it?

I'd consider it less of a spoiler than "someone dies at some point." It's almost implied in some stories. An Ace Attorney type game, anything directed by M. Night Shyamalan...

Oh for sure. It doesn't ruin a story, provided it's a story worth experiencing in the first place. But it does dilute it a bit. I like getting blindsided.
