I had the green light and I was maybe 30 feet from the intersection traveling at 35mph. This is a two lane road and I was on the furthest right lane. She was on the right side of the street and decided to try and cross; her dog ran ahead of her. She noticed my vehicle (ford explorer) and jumped back but by this point the dog ran into the crosswalk and I swerved into the left lane to try and avoid it but it was too late.

Unfortunately she lost a pet today and I absolutely blew my top at her. I called the police just to have an official statement in case something comes of this later. Fortunately, I have this all on my dash cam and showed it to the officer. Just a shitty all around situation that could have been avoided. I could have killed a person and their pet today.

If any of you own a vehicle invest in a dash cam. It will save you from possible jail time or lawsuits.

It was but it slipped out of her hands. It's just such a stupid thing to have happen. I reacted poorly (I was beyond pissed) and was screaming at this lady in the middle of the street. After looking at the video I noticed she was looking at her cell which makes it even worse.

Damn.. That fucking sucks. She's an absolute dip shit.

I never jaywalk unless it's a low traffic area with lots of visual clearance. If there's an intersection you want to properly use the crosswalk and be able to sue somebody if they hit you.

That's really shitty.

Accidents happen though and at least nobody was hurt (except for the dog, of course).

It sounds like she wasn't even paying attention. Yeah it sucks but a pet is your responsibility.

He has the guilt of murdering an innocent dog because of her negligence

Being angry that he now has to mentally deal with that is understandable

Sometimes when these accidents happen, you react in a way you dont expect. In this case, TC was probably also sad the dog died, it wasnt his fault but he ultimately killed the dog. It wasnt his fault so he was angry. Once he calmed down he would have understood that no one wanted it.

But it'd also depend on how the woman was reacting. If she was holding on to that it was TC fault, then it would also make TC angry.

It's reasonable to an extent. But it's definitely a better look to be able to hold yourself together and realize even though it's their fault, they're in a way worse place mentally atm. Im not faulting him for it tho. Plus I have no insight on what his version of screaming at somebody is.

Makes me sad to think about that happening to a dog, especially since I have a dog I constantly take him for walks. I can invision it. Thankfully, Im much more aware tho. I have anxiety about him being hit so I could never be that careless. I play PGo on these walks but it's not hard to just not play it while crossing roads or going around corners. When you can't take your eyes off your phone for that type of shit, you really need to check yourself.

Definitely. Id probably be set off if someone made me kill their dog and then tried to throw all responsibility at me. You gotta be a monk or something to just sit there and take that type of disrespect.

sorry this happened to you tc. i can understand why you'd feel like you shouldn't have yelled at her but she really deserved it. this idiot was walking a dog and about to cross the street without even looking because she was too busy on her cell phone. it could have been a lot worse than just her and her dog getting hit if traffic was heavier and more people were around.

She definitely didn't realize she was in the wrong. As I stated previously, she was on her phone after reviewing the video. I would post it on her but it's NSFW and I don't think anyone really wants to witness that.

Nope, I definitely don't wanna see that. It makes sense that someone wouldn't want to take on that responsibility at first. It would be hard for some to instantly accept that they just killed their pet. Probably initial denial.

As someone who doesn't even drive. I think it should definitely be more up to the pedestrian. You're walking like 2 mph, how the hell is it any trouble for you to make sure a big machine that can kill you isn't coming your way? You should always assume that drivers aren't paying attention just to be safe. I mean, so should drivers, but it's just so much easier as a walker and the penalty is so much higher. Just do one of the first things you were taught when you learned to walk. You should of never dropped the habit.

YMMV depending on jurisdiction, but typically not at an intersection controlled by a traffic signal, especially not if they're crossing on a red light.

It's a company vehicle and there was no physical damage.
