I'd rather keep it closed and watch the economy go down in flames than restart the economy without a vaccine.

Corporate America is just gonna have to deal with the facts that human lives are more important than any amount of money.

I'm sorry, but Wall Street can die a thousand deaths before I'd be willing to lose somebody's mother, somebody's father, somebody's grand mother or grandfather, etc..

They're irreplaceable .

So, here's the thing. Trump doesn't have a say. Because the federal government did such a shitty job the Governors and Mayors all issued the shelter in place orders. Which means Trump has no say in rescinding them. I expect the states will keep things shut down so long as it's deemed necessary by medical personnel.

I agree tc. Wall Street and the greedy elite can suck my bbc jr. I dont indict all the rich, but families and lives are more important than money and stock portfolios. They wont be able to buy their way out of Hell when they are dead anyways. That Bezos dude just gave like 100 million for food relief during this corona outbreak, thats admirable and more than your average internet troll would contribute in 9,000 years. I dont care he could do much more, hes doing something. Actions matter.

Most of those haven't issued stay at home orders. Missouri's governor finally did after every single major population center had already issue done. So again, even where the Governor to rescind his order the cities and counties can keep theirs in place.

What I bet will happen is May will get here and all of sudden it will be pushed back to June.

We're nowhere near ready to restart anything and we won't be for another 18-24 months when and if a viable vaccine is found to wipe it out completely from the population like small pox in the 80's and polio in the 50s..

Those viruses have been eradicated, which is why you're alive today.

The 1% could help the economy, but they're much more inclined to let others die to protect it. The ones that benefit off it the least are expected to die for it first. Maybe the guys who finessed the economy the last few decades, help revive it so they can keep finessing it. But no no, leave it to the people on their last dollar that are desperate and starved. Not the ones that would see the most returns from it up and running again.

yes it can. Just put everyone on temporary unemployment and give everyone maybe like 1,000 each week (maybe a lil bit more for families) to get by. Keep everyone at home til the virus goes away. Its just that simple.

Yes, because the economy only affects bankers. No way you don't suffer from the economy being down. Just ask everyone in the 30s how great things were for them while all the stockbrokers and bankers suffered.

The government is just gonna have to keep paying our way by depositing 1200 bucks into our accounts every month from here on out.

Sure, that's gonna make inflation explode when products are in short supply yet the free money keeps flowing into everyone's bank account in order to survive.

You see, the whole idea of money is that it's hard to come by because it requires work and sacrifice to attain and thus has sufficient buying power for the items you need/want in everyday life.

That no longer exists if everybody has money to spend.

Job growth in the last decade has pretty much been entirely in the service industry. So lots of non-essential jobs that don't necessarily pay well.

Even lots of bull shit high end jobs really aren't necessary because they purely exist to drive profit and nothing else.

People that are going to easily be replaced by a computer algorithm down the road.

I mean, they're very necessary for now,but anyone that looks at our country and thinks we're not a morbidly obese dude with knocked knees threatening to collapse at any moment is lying to themselves.

Reagan's Laissez-faire economics gutted our country of any proper industry and even so, automation threatens to replace humans in even the most skilled of workforces. But we're certainly not going to be leading at the forefront of the robotics industry, so I would be prepared to see our country crumble unless we admit that pure capitalism can't exist in an automated future.

Well, they have a point while things are ballooning out of control and the health care system is being overwhelmed and mass deaths, we should keep the restrictions.

However, when it's brought under control we should definitely find more intelligent ways of dealing with it than just closing down the entire world. We can't wait 3 years for a vaccine before we can do anything other than grocery shop and go for a 20 minute walk around the block. We're going to need to get intelligent about this as a society and I guess it's up to the top medical professionals to come up with an answer for this.

I don't think most of the experts recommending social distancing are thinking "lives over economy at all costs". They're thinking that we can try to minimize the loss of lives, which unfortunately damages the economy, or we can not do anything and have massive amounts of illness and loss of lives which also damages the economy.

I agree we can't stay this way forever, but the choice is not simply lives vs. economy.
