has nothing to do with story length or liberties they took with the plot. the game is objectively a sequel. period.

Shinra HQ looks pretty good for the damage it sustained from Diamond Weapons attack on it. Rufus looks pretty good to. Hell Midgar itself and the Mako Cannon looks pretty good despite getting damaged by Meteor and the fact people still live there despite it being inhabitable, in this sequel.

There's literally multiple Sephiroths from different timelines, including from Advent Children trying to change the events of the original game, and ghosts from the future are trying to make sure the timeline doesn't change and thus resurrect or kill characters who should or shouldn't be alive
also the party steps through a portal where Cloud suddenly has his AC duel with Sephiroth over Midgar, and they see a vision of the epilogue that shows Red XIII running towards the ruins of Midgar two centuries later
there's also a surviving Zack from another timeline who sees Midgar get trashed and walks towards it with Cloud, nobody can see him but Aerith can sort of sense him
The game is literally turning into Kingdom Hearts

I dont think some people ITT realize how badly Nomura fucked up the plot. When people say it reaches Kingdom Hearts level of stupidity, they are not exaggerating. All people wanted was the same story from the original game with maybe some cut content or added scenarios to flesh things out. Absolutely nobody wanted what we got. Im not mad because its just a video game but I am disappointed.

Speak for yourself. I'm getting exactly what I wanted. A different take on FF7's story. I've never wanted it to be just a retelling of the original game.

a reviewer said that he spent about 50 hours in the game trying to do almost everything, but the story related stuff will take about 30+ hours, and other reviewers seem to say the same thing.

I mean, I'm sure you'd be bitter as well if you were put on multiple projects at one time, then when you started to make some progress you were taken off that project, your project was then given to Toriyama and in turn he made it his own and destroyed your original vision.That plus the company you work for basically says you can't talk about it.

Honestly, 30 hours for a straight main story playthrough and 50 hours for a complete run is totally reasonable for a full price game.

Of all the things to complain about, length is probably the least relevant.

No, I bought it because Square Enix themselves said early on it wouldn't be a 1:1 remake. If I had expected it to just be the same game with updated graphics, I would've just watched someone else stream it. I have the original FF7 if I want to experience that game's story again.

That's a fair point bringing up MGS2. Bait and switches like this have been done before, and even some really egregious ones like Aliens: Colonial Marines didn't result in a class action lawsuit. Just money back. There's zero chance this game will get one of those.

You'll be hard pressed to find a 60+ hour RPG this day and age. Persona 5(R) and the Cold Steel games are the only ones that come to mind. Maybe Dragon Quest XI but I never played it so I can't comment.

DQXI can easily go for 60+ hours.

I think the game looks bad but an 89 is a surprisingly good score lmao if anything a "remake" (yeah yeah "retelling") getting such a high score to one of the most overrated games of all time is pretty impressive.
