trilogy in anyway? Like if none of the events happened or if they unfolded in literally any other way, the Disney Trilogy would have happened the exact same way.

The events of the first 6 movies are completely inconsequential towards anything that happened in the Star Wars universe.

They would be completely generic, overwrought Sci fantasy films.

I'm pretty sure you realize that without the first 6 movies, there would be no Star Wars for Disney to buy.

Besides Star Wars takes place a long, long time ago so they could go infinitely in any direction in the timeline and do whatever they wanted.

The lore of the prequels were based on the original trilogy and the expanded universe found in the books and comics. The Disney trilogy essentially cherry-picked what it liked about the lore and discarded the rest of it as non-canon. There are plenty of contradictions in the Disney trilogy as a result of this.

you guys are misunderstanding. Obviously no would would even watch these movies if they weren't riding on the cotails of the other ones. They would probably be box office bombs like John Carter and this is even assuming JJ could even write them without yoinking most of the content from existing movies.

I mean if we look at the each movie as part of the story and we make it so that... let's say Luke loses in return of the Jedi.

How does that change the new sequel trilogy? Everything that happens in the first 6 are completely inconsequential, everything gets undone by the 7th movie.

Nothing was accomplished in those 6 films, they are basically mindless filler

It would be nice if the prequels didn't exist. The sequels might have been better if they didn't have those to reference on the rare occasion.

the world building in the sequels is really fucking lame

i really don't know why people weren't more worried about Abrams after how badly he sterilized the Star Trek universe and turned it into a generic action movie wasteland. that's kind of a problem i have with JJ's visuals as well. basically every set of his feels like a playground for mindless action and nothing else
