• play a song that teleports me to the Temple of Time
• travel to past
• play a song that teleports me to the closest spot to where my task is (which is still really fucking far away)
• roll through an empty field for 10 minutes because I can't use my horse

I love stuff like that. What I hate is an open world with nothing alluring in it

That's the point of an adventure. The journey, not the destination. The bumbling around getting sidetracked is where a lot of the most memorable moments come from.

Im on my first playthrough and Ive wasted so much time climbing the mountain peaks throughout the map for the Korok seeds and to access the towers & shrines. I hate myself.

Theres just so much map. I should be following the story missions, or any side missions but Im just walking and climbing all over the place. I still have yet to reach Kakariko Village and Ive uncovered half the map, I only need to reach like 5 more towers.

oh theres probably a korok seed over there

And is it just me or are the horses in this game difficult to control? Im constantly crashing when Im trying to steer. Its definitely not like previous games.

huh i find Epona in OoT way harder/worse to control than the horses in BotW

Such an overrated game.

This is a case of an open world game being TOO open and TOO free.

Virtually no story, weapons break constantly, no sense of direction or what to do to find all the content, ridiculous weather affects that are just frustrating and prevent progress.

The whole game was just annoying. Bring back Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword style Zelda.

Horses in this game have a bunch of different stats and temperament, and they will be harder to control when they are new until you've bonded with them.

I made all these heat resistant potions to go to goron land, had so many frozen meats that froze when I didn't pick them up quickly enough, and it turns out it was for nothing, heat resistance doesn't do anything at that fiery mountain! I needed fire resistant potions. Oh well.

Gonna go to the gerudo divine beast instead and hope I can use up those heat resistant items there

Oh thank god, the desert heat makes Link fatigued. I can finally use up all those chilled foods.

Although weirdly, the night is freezing. Thank god I bought those cold resistant clothes at Rito village.

You only need to go back to the past twice and both times you can teleport near your objective.

I recently encountered a bear! Took him down immediately out of fear, but next time I'm gonna see what else I can do with them.

Encountered my first sand seal, adorable looking and fun to ride.

I was underwhelmed by BotW for a while, probably a couple months after I started playing. But later on as I became less focused on the main quest and started dealing with the environmental puzzles for Shrines and Korok Seeds, that's when the game really grew in my esteem.

I think a lot of people went in expecting a focused experience and what they got was Miyamoto as a child wandering through the woods going on random adventures (which was his inspiration for the original LoZ).

I can't fault them. The game was presented at major events like E3 almost exclusively using the story cutscenes. If you were only kind of paying attention you probably were expecting something that was really heavy on narrative and I think for a lot of people the sheer open-ended nature of the game caught them by surprise.

Yeah. In a way that final story trailer they showed was a bit misleading. Game looked like an amazing narrative experience from that trailer when it actuality...they just shoved a segment of every cutscene in the game in there, lol.

I didn't beat it. It was the game that broke me out of my VG funk though. I poured hours into it exploring the whole map. I beat every beast, got a lot of work seeds and I think I got most of the shrines, like only few left I think I had.

Then one of my friends asked if he could play the game, and I said yeah. He already had his own Mii and profile on my WiiU so I didn't even think he'd use mine, but he overwrite my save when he started his own game. Needless to say, I was pretty mad. I tried starting a new game but the sheer scope of the game plus all the stuff I was redoing and most of the stuff I had already discovered about the game, I just couldnt put in the time to redo it all. Never really picked it up again
