Not as much as they once were.

Also, this sort of thing can really shift the economy. Worldwide economy is crumbling - we no longer need to maintain the same trading partners as before.

Their population is too large to adhere to the ideals and rules that govern smaller population countries. It can't scale up unfortunately. As for being charged and tried, ultimately it would accomplish nothing. Even if by some miracle China capitulated, how do you enforce rules and standards of a population approaching 1.4 billion? Even China's standing army, about 3 million strong, wouldn't be able to effectively police the country (that's 1 trooper for every 466 civilians).

Absolutely, these guys single handedly took down the world economy and are responsible for the deaths of potentially millions of people not to mention the pain and suffering this is going to cause. I don't really know what an appropriate punishment is for this but justice needs to be served and these people have to answer for their actions.

China is a country with a workforce of billions that will work for pennies.
Nothing will happen to them. Maybe they take more precautions with how their wet markets are regulated but any sanctions will be minimal

Through destroying their economy. If the world takes a stand and says until things are completely 'fixed', China will not be traded with. Doing that, there would NEED to be mass enforcement in China.

That is true, but most countries utilize around 20% of China as their trading partner. The USA, one of China's biggest partners, has China as only 22% of it's total imports, with 11% of total exports.

Like I said, it would hurt, but China would need to come around in a hurry. There are other countries out there ready to grow and take China's place as an economic power.

It is difficult to say who was at fault originally - but the Chinese government did NOT warn the world until it was too late, covered it up as best as they could, and openly permit these sort of unsanitary markets to continue. If they want to trade with the rest of the world, there needs to be uniform safe food handling guides implemented.

It has nothing to do with xenophobia or hate against a race - it is about stepping up to a corrupt government that needs to understand that it's policies have ultimately destroyed the world as we know it. If any other nation did this (particularly, the 'hiding' of the virus), I'd say the same thing.

It is very, very unlikely that China planned the virus. It was more or less the government's response that caused the issue.

If China DID admit to doing this on purpose - they would most likely have the whole world against them.

Bring home manufacturing to their native countries.

Bring home ALL economic investments.

They squandered the first 6 weeks by covering it up, now they're blaming other countries and trying to play hero with their propaganda.

Wuhan, a city of ~19 million people, 6 weeks is ALOT of time for a city of that size and for it's people to travel in and out before quarintine started being put in place.

And when Xi Jing-Ping decided to put Quarintine in place, he gave them 24 hours, and 5 million of Wuhan's residents escaped and scattered to all around the world, carrying the infection with it instead of happily staying locked down in Wuhan.

That is the problem. We need to figure out a way to place sanctions on the Chinese government and also keep the citizens away from the fallout. If the citizens were able to stand up to the government, as some individuals did (the few who warned of the virus), they could easily sway the way the government operates.

If we can take the power away from the government in China, through economics, then the people would be able to stand up for what is right without fear.
